Proof Research
Building a precision rifle starts with the right barrel, and the Proof Research 308 Caliber Sendero Carbon Fiber Barrel Blank gives you a match-grade foundation that weighs significantly less than conventional steel without sacrificing accuracy or longevity. This is a gunsmith blank—thread and chamber work are left to your smith—but it arrives ready to become the core of a serious hunting or target rifle. Proof Research's carbon fiber construction delivers exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio, meaning you get a barrel that's dramatically lighter while maintaining the rigidity needed for tight grouping and consistent performance shot after shot.
The 1:9 twist rate and 5-groove rifling profile suit a wide range of 308 Winchester loads and bullet weights, making this blank a versatile choice for hunters and long-range shooters alike. Carbon fiber's natural thermal properties help manage heat buildup during extended strings of fire, and the material resists the wear and weather that pit and corrode traditional steel. You won't see point-of-impact shift caused by barrel heating, and the reduced harmonic vibration contributes to the kind of consistency that separates good groups from great ones. This is the barrel blank for builders who refuse to compromise on weight savings or accuracy.
Proof Research has built a reputation for uncompromising attention to detail in carbon barrel manufacturing, and the Sendero line reflects that standard. If you're assembling a lightweight hunting rifle, a long-range precision build, or a competition platform where every ounce and every tenth of an inch matters, this blank delivers the performance and durability you need. Your gunsmith will handle the specifics—headspace, chamber reaming, threading—but you're starting with a barrel that's engineered to deliver.
| Caliber | .308 |
| Twist Rate | 1:9 |
| Rifling | 5-Groove |
| Type | Carbon Fiber Barrel Blank |
| Finish | Carbon Fiber Wrapped |
This is a barrel blank, not a finished barrel. You'll need to have a qualified gunsmith thread the barrel and chamber it for your specific rifle action and desired chamber specifications.
Proof Research carbon fiber barrels are up to 64% lighter than comparable traditional steel barrels, making them an excellent choice for hunters and shooters who want to reduce overall rifle weight without sacrificing rigidity or accuracy.
No. The improved heat dissipation properties of carbon fiber and the reduced harmonic vibration of this design help eliminate point-of-impact shift during high-volume fire, keeping your shots consistent even through long practice sessions or competition strings.
The 1:9 twist is a versatile rate for the 308 Winchester and will stabilize a wide range of common hunting and match-grade projectiles. For specific load recommendations, consult with your gunsmith or refer to published 308 ammunition and reloading data.
