A Proof Research 308 Cal 1:10 Twist 5-Groove Carbon Fiber Barrel Blank puts match-grade accuracy and lightweight handling in your hands for custom build projects. Built from a hybrid of 416R stainless steel and carbon fiber, this 26-inch barrel blank delivers the precision long-range shooters and competitive marksmen demand while cutting weight dramatically compared to traditional steel barrels of the same Sendero contour. Whether you're assembling a precision rifle, swapping barrels between builds, or chasing every ounce on an hunting rifle that counts, this blank gives you the foundation to do it right.
The carbon fiber construction isn't just about saving pounds—it's engineered to manage heat in ways steel simply can't. Cooler barrel steel means longer shooting sessions before accuracy starts to walk, better performance during high-volume fire, and a barrel that'll actually last longer under demanding use. The 1:10 twist rate pairs well with mid-to-heavy 308 Winchester projectiles, and the 5-groove rifling is a proven standard for .308 applications. You'll notice reduced harmonic vibration in your shooting, which translates to tighter groups and more consistent point-of-impact—no surprises when you're pushing rounds downrange fast or hunting in back-to-back conditions.
This is a barrel blank, so it arrives unthreaded and uncrowned—ready for a qualified gunsmith to chamber, thread, and crown to your exact specifications and rifle platform. If you're building custom or refreshing a precision gun, this is the raw material that separates guesswork from real performance.
| Caliber | .308 Winchester |
| Barrel Length | 26 inches |
| Twist Rate | 1:10 |
| Rifling | 5-groove |
| Contour | Sendero |
| Material | 416R Stainless Steel with Carbon Fiber |
| Configuration | Unthreaded, uncrowned blank |
This is unthreaded and uncrowned raw material. You'll need a gunsmith to thread it for your action, chamber it to your specifications, and crown the muzzle. This approach gives you full control over your build and lets you work with a smith who understands your rifle's exact purpose.
Yes. The 1:10 twist rate is suited for standard and heavier .308 Winchester projectiles. Once properly chambered and crowned by a gunsmith, it will function with any ammunition within .308 Winchester specs.
Proof Research's carbon fiber hybrid construction saves up to 64% weight compared to traditional steel barrels of the same Sendero contour, making it a substantial advantage for hunters and shooters who carry their rifle long distances.
The carbon fiber hybrid dissipates heat much more efficiently than steel, keeping the barrel cooler during extended shooting and high-volume fire. A cooler barrel maintains accuracy longer and lasts longer under demanding conditions, plus the reduced harmonic vibration helps keep your point-of-impact consistent shot after shot.
