Woox
The Woox Forte Heavy Duty Axe is a 22-inch general-purpose chopping tool that blends classical American and Italian axe design into a single, capable hand tool for camp work, splitting, and carving. Designed by Benjamin Bouchard—a Maine-based edged-tool specialist with years of industry experience—the Forte strikes a practical balance between portability and serious chopping power, making it a reliable companion for homesteads, campsites, and workshop tasks where a versatile axe belongs.
The head geometry reflects its dual heritage: a broad, mildly curved bit inspired by Italian woodworking axes makes accurate, controlled strikes intuitive, while the concave high centerline acts as a chip-breaker to smooth splitting work and the bit-to-eye transition. A pronounced beard on the bit lets you choke up on the handle for close, precise carving or detail work—useful when you need finer control than full-swing chopping allows. The slip-fit eye accepts handle replacements without wedges, so you can swap in a new handle down the road without fuss.
Built from C60/1060 steel hardened to 57 HRC, the head is forged for durability and edge retention that outperforms softer carbon steel. The 22-inch handle is American Appalachian hickory—traditional, resilient, and responsive under load. At 3 pounds, the Forte is light enough to pack for camping or field use but heavy enough to deliver real work without requiring brute force. A leather edge cover with carabiner attachment (sold separately) protects both the blade and your gear when stowed.
This is a no-nonsense tool from a designer who builds axes to be enjoyed as much as used—expect solid performance, straightforward maintenance, and the kind of balance that makes repetitive work feel less like labor.

Its broad bit and pronounced beard make it equally at home for camp tasks, detail carving, and serious splitting. The 22-inch length and 3-pound weight make it portable enough for field use while retaining enough mass for effective work.
The head is forged from C60/1060 steel and hardened to 57 HRC. This medium-carbon steel offers superior hardness and edge retention compared to softer carbon steels, supporting both longevity and performance in repetitive chopping and splitting tasks.
