A PROOF Research 24" carbon fiber .308 Win Sendero barrel delivers the precision and weight savings serious long-range hunters and precision shooters demand. Built for .308 Winchester with a 1:8 twist rate, this blank bolt barrel gives you the foundation for a custom build that won't sacrifice performance for pack weight. The Sendero contour balances stiffness and handling—ideal if you're assembling a rifle that needs to shoot far without feeling like a club on the hike in.
Carbon fiber construction is the standout here. You get a stiffer barrel than traditional steel at roughly half the weight—this one tips the scales at just 2 lbs 14 oz. That matters whether you're building a mountain rifle, a precision range gun, or anything in between. The 1:8 twist will stabilize a wide range of modern .308 projectiles, from lightweight tactical rounds to heavy match-grade bullets, giving you flexibility in load development and component selection.
This is a blank bolt barrel, meaning you're buying the tube itself without a pre-installed bolt. That's common for custom builds where you'll match the bolt to your specific action and setup. The 2.5" breech and 1.20" shank diameter follow standard .308 specifications, so it'll integrate with most modern .308 actions designed for aftermarket barrels. If you're experienced with barrel fitting and installation, or working with a gunsmith, this gives you a quality starting point. If you're newer to builds, have a professional verify fit and timing to your action before headspacing.
| Caliber | .308 Winchester |
| Barrel Length | 24" |
| Twist Rate | 1:8 |
| Breech Diameter | 2.5" |
| Shank Diameter | 1.20" |
| Contour | Sendero |
| Weight | 2 lbs 14 oz |
| Bolt Configuration | Blank (bolt not included) |
The primary advantage is weight and stiffness. Carbon fiber barrels are significantly lighter than steel—this one is around 2 lbs 14 oz—while maintaining or improving rigidity. That translates to easier handling on long hunts and potentially better precision. The tradeoff is cost and, in some cases, thermal characteristics differ from steel.
This barrel has a standard 2.5" breech and 1.20" shank, so it's compatible with most modern .308 actions designed to accept aftermarket barrels. That said, barrel fitting requires careful headspacing and timing to your specific action. If you're not experienced with gunsmithing, have a professional verify the fit and ensure it's properly installed.
No—this is a blank bolt barrel, meaning the bolt itself is not included. You'll need to source and fit a bolt to match your action. Your gunsmith can guide you on the correct bolt for your build.
The 1:8 twist stabilizes the bullet one full rotation over every 8 inches of barrel. For .308 Winchester, a 1:8 twist is quite versatile and will handle everything from lighter varmint rounds in the 110–125 grain range up through heavy match and hunting bullets in the 180–220 grain range, giving you broad flexibility in ammunition selection and handloading.
