The PROOF Research BBL CF Blank Bolt .224 Sendero 16.5" 1:8 Twist carbon fiber barrel is a precision rifle barrel built for shooters who demand lightweight performance without compromise. This is a factory blank—unfitted and unthreaded—so it's designed for gunsmiths and experienced builders ready to inlet it to a receiver of their choice. The .224 caliber and 1:8 twist rate make it well-suited for varmint shooting and long-range target work where velocity and bullet stability matter.
Carbon fiber construction is the standout here. You're getting the strength and durability of a traditional steel barrel while cutting weight dramatically—this barrel tips the scales at just 2 lbs 8 oz, a significant savings on a rifle build where every ounce adds up, especially if you're building a field gun or a lightweight varmint rig. The Sendero contour tapers gradually from breech to muzzle, offering a balance between stiffness and weight that works well across hunting and precision-shooting disciplines.
Fit and chamber work are on you (or your gunsmith), which means you have complete control over the final product. With a 2.5" breech diameter and 1.20" shank diameter, this blank fits standard actions and aftermarket receivers built to conventional specifications. The 16.5" length gives you a handy overall package—long enough for decent velocity in .224 calibers, short enough to stay maneuverable in the field or at the bench.
If you're assembling a custom rifle and want the precision, weight savings, and proven reputation of a PROOF Research carbon fiber barrel, this blank gives you a clean canvas to build exactly what you need.
| Caliber | .224 |
| Barrel Length | 16.5" |
| Twist Rate | 1:8 |
| Contour | Sendero |
| Breech Diameter | 2.5" |
| Shank Diameter | 1.20" |
| Weight | 2 lbs 8 oz |
| Type | Blank Bolt (unfitted, unthreaded) |
A blank barrel is unfitted, unfloated, and unthreaded—it's raw material for a custom build. You'll need to have a gunsmith inlet it to your receiver, bore and chamber it to your chosen specifications, and thread the muzzle if desired. This is not a drop-in barrel; it requires professional fitting.
With a 2.5" breech diameter and 1.20" shank diameter, this barrel is built to standard specifications and will fit conventional bolt-action receivers and many aftermarket actions designed for .224 calibers. Confirm with your gunsmith or action manufacturer before ordering.
The .224 caliber and 1:8 twist are common for varmint hunting and long-range target work. The 16.5" length and lightweight carbon fiber construction make it versatile for field hunters seeking accuracy without bulk. Your choice of load and bullet will determine specific performance.
While exact steel equivalents vary, carbon fiber barrels typically save 1–1.5 lbs compared to a steel barrel of the same profile and length. At 2 lbs 8 oz, this Sendero contour is notably light for a precision rifle blank.
