The J. Dewey ABS-3 .30-8mm Caliber Adjustable Bore Saver Rod Guide is a precision cleaning rod guide designed to protect your rifle's chamber and action while running a cleaning rod down the bore. If you shoot centerfire rifles and clean them regularly, a proper bore saver guide isn't optional—it's insurance against accidental dings, solvent contamination in your action, and trigger mechanism damage. This 10\" model strikes the balance between scope clearance and practical usability for most hunting and range rifles.
The core innovation here is simple but effective: it replaces your bolt during the cleaning process, sealing the chamber with a rubber O-ring that keeps bore solvent, carbon, and debris away from your action, trigger group, and magazine well. The aluminum collar is built to last through years of regular cleaning cycles, and the threaded brass adjustment pin lets you dial in a perfect fit for your specific action length—no guessing, no over-tightening. The 10\" length gives you enough hand clearance to work comfortably under short to medium-length scopes without cramping; if you run long varmint or target glass, the 13\" version is available separately.
One critical note: you'll need a cleaning rod that's at least 10\" longer than your barrel to use this guide effectively. That means measuring first, ordering your rod accordingly, and knowing you've got genuine chamber protection for every cleaning session. It's the kind of accessory that seems small until you've seen what a careless cleaning session can do to a trigger or bolt face.
| Caliber Compatibility | .30-8mm |
| Guide Length | 10\" |
| Primary Material | Aluminum (collar); Brass (adjustment pin) |
| Seal Type | Rubber O-ring |
| Installation | Replaces bolt during cleaning |
| Adjustment Method | Threaded brass pin |
You'll need a cleaning rod that's at least 10\" longer than your barrel length. The guide itself is 10" long, so measure your barrel and add 10" to determine the correct rod size.
Yes. The 10\" length is designed to provide adequate hand clearance under short and medium-length scopes, allowing you to clean without removing optics. If you have a long varmint or target scope, the 13\" version may work better.
The rubber O-ring creates a tight seal in the chamber, preventing bore solvent, carbon, and debris from flowing back into the action, trigger mechanism, and magazine area during cleaning.
Yes. The threaded brass adjustment pin allows you to customize the fit to your action length, eliminating gaps and ensuring a secure, repeatable fit every time you clean.
