Hornady
The Hornady XTP .357 158 GR hollow point round is a versatile handgun cartridge built for shooters who demand reliable expansion and penetration across a range of applications—from hunting and defensive carry to range practice. This 100-round pack gives you Hornady's trusted XTP projectile, engineered with design features that have made it a favorite among competitive shooters and hunters alike.
At the heart of every XTP bullet is controlled expansion. Hornady's engineered serrations divide the bullet into symmetrical sections, deliberately weakening the jacket to initiate consistent mushrooming even when velocities dip below typical handgun speeds. The gilding metal jacket wraps the entire projectile, protecting the hollow cavity so it expands reliably on impact while feeding smoothly in semi-automatic firearms. A swaged core ensures uniform density throughout, delivering balanced expansion and stable flight from shot to shot.
Revolver shooters will appreciate the cannelure crimped into each bullet before final forming—this groove locks the round securely in the case for accurate, consistent cylinder performance without introducing dimensional distortion. The drawn gilding metal jacket uses varying thickness along its length to manage expansion precisely, giving XTP ammunition a real advantage over plated alternatives with uniform jacket construction.
Whether you're loading defensive rounds for your .357 Magnum or .38 Special, hunting medium game, or logging range hours, this 100-round supply of 158-grain XTP bullets offers the kind of dependable terminal performance that has built Hornady's reputation in the handgun community.
| Caliber | .357 / .38 |
| Bullet Weight | 158 grains |
| Bullet Type | Hollow Point (XTP) |
| Quantity | 100 rounds |
| Jacket Material | Drawn gilding metal |
Yes. These bullets are sized for .357/.38 caliber, so they'll load safely in both .357 Magnum and .38 Special brass. Your load data should reflect the specific cartridge and powder charge you're assembling.
The cannelure is a groove crimped into the bullet before final forming. It helps revolver shooters achieve accurate, consistent crimping without damaging the bullet. If you're loading semi-automatic rounds, you may choose to crimp at the cannelure or leave it uncrimped, depending on your firearm and reloading practice.
Yes. The XTP design—controlled expansion, deep penetration, and reliable mushrooming across a range of velocities—makes it a popular choice for hunting applications with handguns and revolvers.
Hornady's XTP uses engineered serrations, a drawn gilding metal jacket with variable thickness, and a swaged core to deliver controlled expansion even at lower velocities. Plated bullets, by contrast, have uniform jacket thickness throughout, which doesn't offer the same expansion consistency.
