The Haydel's Game Calls VDG92 Variable Tone Grunter is a straightforward, effective deer call designed to mimic the vocalizations that bring bucks into range during the rut and beyond. This black plastic deer grunt call gives you control over tone variation, letting you match different buck behaviors and communication styles—from aggressive pre-rut challenges to submission grunts that trigger curiosity. If you're hunting whitetail and want a reliable, affordable tool to add realism to your setup, a variable tone grunter fills a real gap in most hunters' gear bags.
Deer calls work because bucks respond to social cues, dominance signaling, and territorial behavior. A quality grunt call that lets you adjust your tone gives you flexibility to experiment in the field and read how deer react. The VDG92's plastic construction keeps it durable and easy to clean, and the variable tone feature means you're not locked into one pitch or cadence.
Haydel's has been making hunting calls since the 1970s and built their reputation on calls that actually work. This grunter sits in that solid middle ground—not bare-bones, not premium, but genuinely useful for hunters who take calling seriously without overthinking it. Whether you're a first-time caller or someone who's been running calls for years, having a variable tone option in your pack makes sense.

| Model | VDG92 |
| Type | Variable Tone Deer Grunt Call |
| Material | Black Plastic |
A variable tone call lets you adjust the pitch and intensity of the grunt by changing how you use the call, giving you more flexibility in the field to match different buck vocalizations and situations. A fixed-tone call produces one consistent sound.
Deer respond to grunts year-round, but calling is most effective during the rut and pre-rut when bucks are actively communicating and territorial. Outside the rut, deer are less responsive to vocalizations, though some hunting situations may still benefit from calling.
Yes. The VDG92 has no batteries, electronics, or complicated assembly—just a straightforward design you can start using immediately. Learning effective calling technique takes practice, but the call itself is simple to operate.
