Brownells
A Brownells rifle sight dovetail slot blank in black is a machined mild steel insert designed to fill and finish dovetail slots on rifle barrels—whether you're removing factory sights, restoring a vintage rifle to original condition, or customizing a build. These blanks arrive slightly oversize, which lets you achieve a snug, seamless fit in your barrel's existing dovetail without gaps or misalignment. Once installed, they're straightforward to shape, file, and finish to match your barrel's profile and blueing.
Gun builders and restorers rely on sight blanks like this when factory sights are removed and the dovetail needs to be closed off cleanly. Because Brownells mills these blanks slightly larger than standard dovetail dimensions, you get the precision fit that comes from custom work without custom pricing. The mild steel composition machines easily—whether you're hand-filing a custom profile or using shop equipment—and takes blueing or other metal finishes reliably.
Whether you're working on a vintage rifle restoration, a custom build, or simply need a professional-looking blank for a dovetail you've removed, this part gives you a solid foundation. Order online and have the materials ready for your next sight project.
A dovetail blank fills and closes off a dovetail slot after a factory sight is removed or to complete a custom build. It's commonly used in rifle restoration to return a gun to original specs when original sights are no longer present or needed.
Yes. Because this blank arrives slightly oversize, you'll need files and shaping tools to fit it precisely to your barrel's dovetail, then finish it (blueing, parkerizing, or paint) to match your rifle's existing finish.
You receive the machined mild steel dovetail slot blank in black finish. Tools, blueing compounds, and sight base hardware are not included.
