Winchester
The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in .416 Remington Magnum is built for hunters pursuing dangerous game where a single well-placed shot matters most. This bolt-action rifle combines Winchester's legendary controlled-feed reliability with the stopping power of a heavy magnum caliber, making it the platform of choice for African safaris and demanding hunts where the stakes are highest. The .416 Rem Mag delivers the velocity and energy needed for dangerous game at extended range, and the Model 70's time-tested design ensures that shot will go exactly where you aim.
Every detail on the Safari Express reflects its purpose. The rifle wears a satin walnut stock with cut checkering and a deluxe cheekpiece that positions your eye precisely behind open sights or a mounted scope. A cold hammer-forged, free-floating barrel with a recessed target crown delivers the accuracy expected of a Winchester, while the three-position safety keeps you in control in the field. The matte metal finish cuts glare without compromising the rifle's classic aesthetics. At 9 pounds with a 24-inch barrel and overall length of 44.75 inches, it's a manageable platform even in tight hunting situations.
The action itself is engineered for punishment. Dual integral recoil lugs bedded front and rear, two steel stock crossbolts, and a one-piece bottom metal with steel floorplate create rigidity that handles magnum recoil and maintains zero shot after shot. The pre-'64 style controlled-round-feed with claw extractor—a Winchester hallmark—fully dominates the cartridge from magazine to chamber to ejection, the kind of reliability dangerous-game hunters depend on. Winchester's M.O.A. trigger system delivers a clean, crisp break with zero take-up and zero creep. A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad absorbs the sharp kick of magnum loads, and hooded brass bead front and adjustable rear express sights get you on target when seconds count.
This is a rifle for the serious dangerous-game hunter who understands that equipment must earn trust before it earns use in the field. The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express has been the choice of professional hunters and experienced shooters for decades—not because of hype, but because it works.
