Taylors & Company
The Taylors & Company Smokewagon 44-40 revolver in 5.5-inch Deluxe Edition splits the difference between classic single-action cowboy guns and practical shooting iron. Built around the venerable .44-40 cartridge—a round that earned its reputation in the Old West and still has plenty of fans in Cowboy Action Shooting and historical reenactment circles—this 6-shot revolver combines period-correct aesthetics with shootable features modern hands appreciate. At 11 inches overall and just 2.30 pounds, it carries like a real working gun, not a safe queen.
What makes the Deluxe Edition stand out is the attention to detail. The blue finish pairs with case hardening on the frame for that authentic two-tone look, while the checkered walnut grips provide genuine control—not just eye candy. The widened sight channel and front blade are practical improvements over original designs, making it genuinely shootable for someone who wants to run this gun, not just display it. Taylors & Company has earned respect by building firearms that respect the originals without being slaves to them.
If you're into Cowboy Action Shooting, love the .44-40 cartridge, or want a single-action revolver with real historical character and functional sights, the Smokewagon Deluxe delivers on both fronts. It's the kind of gun that works as hard as it looks.
