Starrett
The Starrett 134 Cross Test Level and Plumb is a compact precision tool built for gunsmiths, armorers, and shooters who need to verify sight alignment, scope mounting, and firearm geometry. This 2 x 3 inch cast iron level delivers the accuracy and portability that serious gun work demands—whether you're setting up a gunsmith's workbench, checking sight correction, or ensuring a receiver is true before fitting a stock. At just 3 ounces, it fits in a pocket or toolbox without adding weight to your kit.
What sets the 134 apart is its three-vial design: two leveling vials positioned at right angles let you check perpendicularity without repositioning the tool, and a top-mounted plumb vial confirms squareness in a single step. For firearm assembly—where a canted sight or misaligned scope mount can throw off your zero—this cross-test capability saves time and prevents errors. The satin nickel finish over cast iron resists corrosion and handles daily use without losing its flat, true working surfaces.
Built to Starrett's exacting standards, the 134 delivers 24–30 minutes of accuracy, the precision you'd expect from a maker known for machinist-grade tools. It's a workhorse for anyone doing sight installation, receiver truing, or assembly work—the kind of tool that pays for itself the first time it catches a canted mounting surface before you leave the bench.
| Dimensions | 2 in. × 3 in. × 1/2 in. thick (5.1 cm × 7.6 cm × 1.3 cm) |
| Weight | 3 ounces (85 grams) |
| Material | Cast iron |
| Finish | Satin nickel |
| Vials | 3 total (2 for leveling, 1 for plumb) |
| Accuracy | 24–30 minutes |
The Starrett 134 is ideal for checking sight alignment, verifying scope mount perpendicularity, and confirming receiver geometry during assembly or repair. The cross-test vials let you check both horizontal and vertical planes without moving the tool, which is essential for ensuring accuracy in firearms setup.
Yes. The dual leveling vials at right angles and the plumb vial make it suited for verifying scope rail alignment and mount squareness—critical steps before mounting optics.
Accuracy is measured in arc minutes. The Starrett 134's 24–30 minute specification means the vials will detect tilts within that tolerance range, delivering precision well-suited to gunsmithing and precision assembly work.
Yes. The cast iron body with satin nickel finish resists corrosion, and the flat, true working surfaces are built to hold up under regular use in a working shop or bench environment.
