SIERRA BULLETS
The Sierra MatchKing 7mm/.284 cal 150 gr HPBT rifle bullets are purpose-built for precision shooters who demand consistency shot after shot on the range. These match-grade bullets represent Sierra's decades of experience in accuracy-focused ammunition development, engineered for target shooting and precision rifle competitions where sub-MOA performance is the standard, not the exception.
What sets MatchKing bullets apart is the obsessive attention to manufacturing tolerances that separate good ammo from truly match-grade ammunition. Each bullet is drawn to an exacting concentricity standard, with jacket wall thickness held to within 0.0003 inches of variation—tight enough that bullet runout, not load technique, becomes your limiting factor. Weight consistency is equally critical: every round in a 100-count box stays within plus or minus 0.3 grain of nominal, so your ballistics remain predictable across an entire shooting session or competition string.
The 150-grain 7mm MatchKing carries a hollow point design with a minimal meplat paired to a boat tail profile. This geometry delivers a high ballistic coefficient and low drag characteristics, translating to flatter trajectories and minimal wind drift—essential when you're chasing accuracy at distance. These bullets are handloader's bullets, suited to meticulous reloaders who control every variable in the chain. Sierra explicitly notes that MatchKing bullets are optimized for accuracy and precision shooting; hunters should look to Sierra's hunting-specific bullet lines instead.
If you reload for precision rifle, PRS-style competition, or long-range target work, the consistency and ballistic performance of MatchKing ammunition justify the extra attention they demand in the handloading process.
| Caliber | .284" (7mm) |
| Weight | 150 grain |
| Bullet Type | Hollow Point Boat Tail Match (HPBT MATCH) |
| Count per Box | 100 |
| Jacket Concentricity Tolerance | 0.0003" maximum variation |
| Weight Tolerance | ±0.3 grain |
No. Sierra explicitly recommends against using MatchKing bullets for hunting applications. These bullets are engineered specifically for accuracy and target shooting. Sierra produces dedicated hunting bullet lines designed for game animals; consult Sierra's product catalog for appropriate hunting options in your caliber and weight.
Concentricity refers to how perfectly centered the bullet's jacket is around its core. A tighter tolerance means less runout (wobble) when the bullet seats in your case, which translates directly to more consistent flight and tighter groups. This level of control is why match shooters prefer MatchKing ammunition.
MatchKing bullets respond to the same reloading equipment and techniques as standard rifle bullets, but they reward meticulous handloading practices. Precision reloaders typically pay extra attention to bullet seating concentricity, powder charge consistency, and case preparation when working with match-grade ammunition to realize their full potential.
Each box contains 100 bullets. This is the standard reload box count for most rifle ammunition components.
