Redding Reloading Equipment
The Redding Large Decapping Die is a straightforward, no-frills case prep tool for reloaders who need to remove spent primers and clean brass before sizing. If you're processing fired cases from longer cartridges, this die handles the job efficiently—removing the guesswork and risk of trying to deprime cases in your sizing die, which can damage both the die and your brass. It's a dedicated step that protects your equipment and keeps your reloading process clean and organized.
This die is built for larger rifle and magnum calibers with case lengths up to 3.0 inches, making it ideal for cartridges like .300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, or other long-action rounds. It removes spent primers quickly so you can move on to wet tumbling, dry media cleaning, or straight to sizing—your choice. The straightforward design means no learning curve: chuck it in your press, fire your cases through, and move to the next step in your prep.
Redding's decapping dies have been part of the brass prep workflow for serious handloaders for decades. This one won't replace your sizing die or magically clean your brass, but it does one thing very well: get those primers out reliably so your cases are ready for the next stage. If you reload larger magnum or long-action cartridges and want a dedicated depriming step, this is a solid, dependable choice.

The Large Decapping Die is designed for rifle and magnum calibers with case lengths up to 3.0 inches and neck sizes smaller than 7mm. This makes it suitable for cartridges like .300 Win Mag, .308 Winchester, .270 Winchester, and other standard to magnum long-action rounds.
No. Redding offers a separate Small Decapping Die (RD69100) for smaller calibers from .22 through .50 caliber with case lengths up to 2.5 inches. Choose the Large Die for longer magnum and standard rifle cartridges only.
Yes. An optional .17/.20 caliber rod (RD69250) is available separately. This rod will also accommodate the small .060 inch flash holes found on PPC and BR cases.
A dedicated decapping die is optional but beneficial. Depriming separately keeps your sizing die cleaner and protects it from damage caused by spent primer fragments. Many serious reloaders use a decapping die as a first prep step before wet tumbling or other cleaning methods.
