Pro-Shot
The Pro-Shot MP2427 bore mop for .24-.27 caliber rifles is a straightforward, effective tool for anyone who runs serious cleaning and lubrication routines on centerfire and rimfire rifles in that bore diameter range. Built with a 100% cotton head mounted on a brass core, this mop is designed to handle both quick cleaning passes and thorough bore lubrication work. The American Standard #8-32 thread connects to any standard rifle cleaning rod compatible with that specification—a universal fit for most bolt-action and semi-auto platforms.
What sets a quality bore mop apart is how it behaves under bore oil. Unlike brushes, which agitate, mops create a foaming action that works with oil-based lubricants to coat the bore more evenly and efficiently. This makes the MP2427 especially valuable if you prefer running a light coat of oil through your barrels between shooting sessions or after extended range days. The all-cotton construction absorbs and distributes lubricant across the bore surface, leaving a protective film without pooling or running out the breech.
Size matters in bore mops—too loose and you're just pushing air; too tight and you're fighting resistance that defeats the purpose. The MP2427 is cut specifically for .24-.27 caliber, which covers most common mid-bore cartridges including .243 Winchester, .25-06 Remington, and .270 Winchester. If you shoot multiple calibers in that range, one mop works across the board.
Pro-Shot's reputation is built on no-nonsense construction, and that extends to their mops. The brass core won't corrode or impart residue into your bore, and the cotton holds up through regular use and cleaning. Keep a few in rotation—they're consumable tools, and having backups means you always have a clean mop ready when you need one.
| Caliber Compatibility | .24-.27 Cal |
| Thread Standard | #8-32 (American Standard) |
| Core Material | Brass |
| Head Material | 100% Cotton |
| Manufacturer | Pro-Shot |
Yes, if your cleaning rod uses American Standard #8-32 threads. This is the most common threading specification for rifle cleaning rods sold in the US, so compatibility is wide. If you're unsure about your rod's thread spec, check the manufacturer documentation or the rod itself—the thread size is typically stamped near the handle.
The MP2427 is sized for .24-.27 caliber bores. This covers popular cartridges including .243 Winchester, .25-06 Remington, .270 Winchester, and others in that bore diameter range. If you shoot multiple calibers within that spectrum, one mop handles them all.
While a mop can technically dry-clean, its real strength is working with bore oil or other liquid lubricants. The cotton creates a foaming action with oil that helps distribute it evenly across the bore surface, which is where the Pro-Shot design excels.
Bore mops are consumable tools and will eventually show wear after repeated cleaning cycles. Keep a few on hand so you always have a clean one ready. When a mop becomes fouled or compressed and no longer performs effectively, replace it.
