Primos
The Primos 160 Imperial Plate Double Reed Turkey Call is a box call designed for turkey hunters who want authentic, controllable vocalizations in the field. Double-reed calls like this one give you the flexibility to produce a range of turkey sounds—from soft purrs and clucks to aggressive cuts and yelps—making it a versatile choice whether you're working birds in spring or fall. The Imperial Plate construction is built to deliver consistent tone and volume, letting you call with confidence across varying distances and wind conditions.
Box calls have earned their place in turkey hunting for good reason: they're intuitive to operate, even for newer callers, and they produce sounds that turkeys recognize and respond to. The double-reed design on this Primos model gives you more tonal range and control than single-reed alternatives, so you can fine-tune your calling to match the mood and response you're getting from the birds. Whether you're set up over decoys, working a strut zone, or trying to locate gobblers on the roost, a reliable box call is a go-to tool.
Like any turkey call, your success depends on learning to use it well—spend time practicing the mechanics before the season opens, and you'll dial in the cadence and pressure that triggers responses. Keep it in your vest pocket, day pack, or blind setup; box calls are compact and don't require batteries or moving parts to maintain in the field.
Double-reed calls like the Primos 160 Imperial Plate are capable of producing clucks, purrs, yelps, cuts, and other vocalizations that turkeys use to communicate. The range and realism depend on your technique and practice.
Box calls are generally considered user-friendly for hunters new to turkey calling because the mechanics are straightforward—you learn the grip and pressure fairly quickly. The Primos 160 is a solid option to build foundational calling skills.
Box calls work in spring gobbler season, fall season, and during scouting. They're effective both when you're locating birds and when you're set up trying to bring them in closer.
