Montana Decoy
The Montana Decoy Co RMEF Cow Elk is a full-sized elk decoy built for serious hunters who need a tactical advantage during the rut. Standing tall in the field, this decoy gives you the visibility and presence to draw bulls in from distance—whether you're hunting wide-open meadows, brushy ridgelines, or anywhere elk traffic converges. It's light enough to pack into steep country but substantial enough to hold its own against wind and hold a bull's attention when he commits to investigating.
This decoy works three ways: as a visual magnet during a stalk, as a confidence builder when you're setting up over a calling position, or as cover in country where real concealment is scarce. The RMEF partnership adds meaning to your purchase—proceeds support Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation projects that protect winter and summer range, migration corridors, calving grounds, and secure hunter access across elk country. You're not just buying gear; you're investing in the future of public elk hunting.
At just over 2.5 pounds with poles included, the RMEF Cow Elk breaks down small enough for a backpack but deploys to full 4-foot height for maximum field presence. Whether you're a DIY public-land hunter or pursuing private ranch opportunities, this decoy fills a real gap in your toolkit—especially during the intense September and early October window when cow chirps and bugles set the stage.
| Weight (with poles) | 42 oz. |
| Folded dimensions | 17" × 15" |
| Unfolded dimensions | 48" × 50" |
| Type | Cow elk decoy |
The complete decoy with poles weighs 42 oz. (just under 2.6 pounds) and folds to 17" × 15", making it packable for backcountry elk hunts. Most hunters fit it easily in a pack frame or secure it to the outside of a bag.
We've got the specs on this decoy, but we don't have comparative details on bull decoys in our system. Stop by or call and we can walk you through the pros and cons for your specific hunting situation.
Fully deployed, the RMEF Cow Elk reaches 48" × 50" in profile, giving it realistic height and presence to catch a bull's eye from distance in open country or through scattered brush.
Yes. Montana Decoy Co. partners with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and proceeds from RMEF Cow Elk sales help protect critical elk habitat, migration corridors, calving areas, and hunter access throughout the West.
