Magpul
The Magpul MBUS 3 Sight Front is a rugged, all-steel backup front sight built for AR-15 platforms and any rifle running a Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail. Whether you're running a primary optic or setting up irons-only, this hooded front sight delivers fast target acquisition without the snag risk of an exposed post. The round hood doesn't just protect the sight post—it works with a compatible rear MBUS Pro to create an aperture-within-aperture configuration for shooters who want that precision diopter-style option. Made in the USA with a QPQ salt bath nitride finish, it's built to handle hard use and won't rust out on you.
The elevation adjustment knob operates tool-free, so you can dial in your zero on the fly without fumbling for a sight tool. When stowed, it sits low and compact (1.71 inches), staying out of the way of your optics and gear. When deployed, positive detents lock it in at standard AR sight height. You've got two post widths to choose from: the narrow .040-inch match width if you're chasing precision, or the standard .060-inch for better visibility in low light and fast shooting. The narrower post also plays well with IR aiming lasers and light mounts for professional setups.
This is a no-frills, purpose-built backup sight from a maker that understands what shooters actually need. Pair it with the MBUS Pro rear sight for a complete iron set, or run it standalone on a rail-height gas block—it works either way. At 1.5 ounces, it adds almost nothing to your rifle's weight or profile.
| Position | Front |
| Height Above Rail (Stowed) | ~0.43 inches maximum |
| Length (Stowed) | 1.7 inches |
| Weight | 1.5 ounces |
| Rail Compatibility | MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny and STANAG 4694 |
| Front Post Widths | 0.040 inches (match) or 0.060 inches (standard) |
| Elevation Adjustment | ~1 MOA per click (14.5" sight radius); ~0.7 MOA per click (20" sight radius) |
| Finish | QPQ salt bath nitride |
It mounts on any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny or STANAG 4694 rail, including rail-height gas blocks. This makes it compatible with most AR-15 platforms and other rifles with standard Picatinny top rails.
The MBUS 3 front can work as a standalone backup sight. It becomes a full aperture-within-aperture system when paired with the MBUS Pro rear sight, but it functions perfectly on its own for irons-only setups.
Yes. The .040-inch match-width front post is compatible with most IR aiming lasers and light installations, making it a solid choice for professional and tactical setups.
With a 14.5-inch sight radius, each click equals approximately 1 MOA (1.131 inches at 100 meters). With a 20-inch sight radius, each click is roughly 0.7 MOA (0.820 inches at 100 meters).
