Hornady
The Hornady ELD Match Target .224 Cal 80 gr bullets are precision-engineered match-grade projectiles built for competitive shooters and long-range rifle reloaders who demand consistency and ballistic performance. Whether you're loading for varmint competitions, precision rifle matches, or demanding target work, these extremely low drag bullets deliver the kind of shot-to-shot and lot-to-lot uniformity that separates good groups from exceptional ones.
ELD Match bullets are defined by Hornady's Heat Shield tip technology—a heat-resistant polymer design that maintains its shape under the aerodynamic heating that occurs at extended ranges. Traditional bullet tip materials can soften and deform, especially beyond 400 yards, which degrades ballistic coefficient and accuracy. The Heat Shield tip solves that problem by preserving a consistent, optimized meplat (tip geometry) from the first round downrange to the last, ensuring your ballistic calculations hold true across the entire flight of the bullet.
Built for handloaders who are serious about precision, these .224 caliber, 80-grain projectiles deliver best-in-class ballistic coefficients with radar-verified performance data. That means you're loading to published BCs you can actually trust—no guessing, no unexpected velocity or wind-drift surprises at distance. The combination of superior aerodynamic design, consistent construction, and the Heat Shield tip makes ELD Match bullets a go-to choice for reloaders competing in PRS, F-Class, and other precision rifle disciplines where every tenth of an inch counts.
| Caliber | .224 |
| Weight | 80 grains |
| Product Type | Match-Grade Rifle Bullets |
| Bullet Design | ELD Match with Heat Shield Tip |
ELD Match bullets feature Hornady's Heat Shield tip technology, which resists deformation under aerodynamic heating at extended ranges (beyond 400 yards). This preserves consistent ballistic performance and accuracy where conventional bullet tips can soften and lose their optimized shape, degrading your BC and point-of-impact predictability.
Yes. Hornady publishes radar-verified ballistic coefficient data for ELD Match bullets, so the BCs you use in your ballistic calculator are accurate and field-proven, not estimated or theoretical numbers.
ELD Match bullets are engineered for precision rifle competition, long-range target shooting, and match-grade handloading where consistency, accuracy, and extended-range performance are essential.
These bullets are specifically designed and marketed as match-grade target projectiles. For hunting applications, consult Hornady's hunting-specific bullet lines and your local hunting regulations.
