Great Lakes Firearms
The Great Lakes Firearms AR-15 in .223 Wylde is a versatile, semi-automatic rifle built for shooters who want the flexibility to run both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition without compromise. This 16-inch barreled carbine delivers the handling speed of a modern sporting rifle with the accuracy potential of a precision platform—a genuine all-arounder for range work, home defense, or training. At 6.8 lbs, it balances shootability with reasonable portability, and it ships ready to run with a 30-round magazine included.
The 16-inch heavy barrel wears a 1:8 twist rate, standard for stabilizing modern .223 projectiles across a wide weight range. Threading is 1/2x28 for suppressor or brake compatibility. The upper and lower are both 7075 aluminum—the same alloy used in aircraft structures—paired with a carbine-length gas system and 0.750 gas block for reliable function and easy tuning. The full-length Picatinny rail handguard (15.25 inches) gives you room to mount optics, lights, and accessories without hunting for space. You get a mil-spec polymer grip and a standard mil-spec trigger breaking at 5.5–6 pounds; the safety is non-ambidextrous. Out of the box, there are no sights—that's typical for modern AR builds, leaving you to choose your own glass or iron.
Finish is Cerakote in that splatter black—durable ceramic coating that shrugs off the elements better than plain parkerize. The muzzle brake comes pre-installed and is designed to be torqued to 6 degrees without Loctite. M4 feed ramps ensure reliable magazine changes and ammunition feeding. Whether you're setting up a first AR-15, building out a duty rifle, or rounding out your collection, this Great Lakes piece gives you a solid foundation and genuine flexibility across the .223/.556 spectrum.
