The Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 .45 ACP is a stainless steel semi-automatic pistol built for shooters who want proven 1911 reliability with modern ergonomics and sight options. Chambered in .45 ACP with an 8+1 round capacity, this hammer-fired single-action pistol combines the timeless 1911 platform with Series 70 refinements—including a National Match barrel and dual recoil spring system—that reduce felt recoil and improve consistency. Whether you're training at the range, competing in tactical matches, or carrying a full-size duty pistol, the Comp Series 70 delivers the stopping power and shootability that made the .45 ACP legendary.

Ergonomics matter on a gun you'll shoot frequently. The G10 checkered grips with scallop provide a secure, non-slip purchase, while the extended thumb safety and beavertail grip safety offer confidence and positive control. The 5-inch barrel strikes a practical balance between velocity, handling, and sight radius—long enough for precision work, short enough for practical carry and deployment.

The sighting system reflects real-world needs: a Novak red fiber optic front sight paired with an adjustable Novak rear sight. Fiber optics gather light in dim conditions, and the adjustable rear lets you dial in your zero. The stainless finish resists corrosion and stands up to hard use, while the 3-hole aluminum trigger provides a crisp, predictable break. Spare sight fibers are included, so you can keep the gun running if the fiber ever gets damaged in the field.

At 36 ounces unloaded, the Comp Series 70 is substantial enough to manage recoil without being a burden. One magazine is included; additional capacity is easy to find from any quality 1911 supplier. This is a no-nonsense pistol for serious shooters who respect the platform and want it done right.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 use?

This pistol is chambered in .45 ACP, one of the most widely available and proven defensive and target cartridges in the world.

Is this pistol good for concealed carry or home defense?

The Comp Series 70 is a full-size 1911 at 8.5 inches overall. It's better suited to range work, competition, and duty carry rather than deep concealment, though carry preference is personal. If you're looking for a more compact option, Colt makes shorter 1911 variants.

Can I use standard 1911 magazines and accessories with this pistol?

Yes. The Colt 1911 Comp Series 70 is built on the standard 1911 platform, so it accepts aftermarket magazines, holsters, and accessories designed for .45 ACP 1911s. One magazine is included with the pistol.

What sight system does it have?

The Comp Series 70 features a Novak red fiber optic front sight and an adjustable Novak rear sight. The fiber optic front sight gathers ambient light, improving visibility in low-light conditions. The adjustable rear allows you to dial in your zero. Spare sight fibers are included in case the fiber is damaged.
