The Cimarron 1872 Open Top Navy Grip Revolver in .38 Long Colt/.38 Special is a faithful reproduction of one of the most iconic American handguns ever made. Built by Cimarron Firearms Co., this open top revolver captures the look, feel, and mechanics of the original 1872 design that earned its place in Wild West history. Whether you're a Cowboy Action Shooter, a historical reenactor, or someone who appreciates classic American firearms, this revolver delivers authentic handling and period-correct aesthetics that you won't find in modern designs.
The gun's 7 1/2-inch barrel provides excellent sight radius and the velocity profile these cartridges need to perform. A case-hardened frame with standard blue finish gives it that authentic worn-and-used character—not a polished showpiece, but a genuine working tool. The single-piece walnut grip feels natural in your hand and weathers beautifully with use, adding character over time. At 2.33 pounds, it's light enough for all-day carry in competition or reenactment but substantial enough to shoot with real control.
The open top design is the real draw here: it's faster to load and unload than a top-break or swing-cylinder design, and the exposed mechanism is part of the gun's undeniable charm. .38 Long Colt and .38 Special are proven cartridges with mild recoil, making this revolver accessible to shooters of all experience levels while still delivering reliable performance at typical handgun distances. This is a revolver built to be carried, shot, and lived with—not locked in a safe.
