CHIAPPA FIREARMS
The Chiappa 1887 Mares Leg is a lever-action shotgun built on the proven Winchester 1887 design, scaled down to a compact 18.5-inch barrel for hunters and shooters who want nimble handling without sacrificing power. This 12-gauge brings genuine Old West character to the field—the kind of gun that makes you *want* to shoulder it—while delivering practical performance for close-range hunting, home defense, or just working through a fun Saturday at the range. The Mares Leg's shorter profile and walnut furniture give it a period-correct look that stands apart from modern tactical shotguns, yet the lever action remains smooth and reliable.
What makes the 1887 platform special is its quick follow-up shots. The lever action cycles fast, and a five-round capacity (plus one in the chamber) gives you adequate payload for most situations. The walnut grip and forend feel good in your hands and age beautifully. The matte black finish on the steel receiver and barrel resists corrosion without the shine of polished metal, keeping you low-key in the field.
This is a shotgun for shooters who appreciate mechanical simplicity and aren't chasing the latest tactical trends. Whether you're hunting upland game in tight cover, running clay targets, or just want a lever gun that turns heads, the Chiappa 1887 Mares Leg delivers character and capability in a package that's easy to carry and fast to shoot.
| Gauge | 12 |

As a 12-gauge shotgun, it fires standard 12-gauge shells. Always verify your ammunition is in good condition and appropriate for your intended use.
The compact 18.5-inch barrel and lever action make it well-suited for close-range hunting in brush, timber, and tight cover where follow-up shots matter. Ideal for upland game and similar applications where shotguns are the standard choice.
The lever action is simple, reliable, and mechanically elegant. It requires manual cycling for each shot, which some shooters prefer for safety and control, though it's slower than pumps or semi-autos. It's also remarkably fun to shoot.
