The American Defense Recon Quick-Release Extended Scope Mount is a cantilever-style Picatinny mount built specifically for AR-15 flat-top receivers. If you're running an optic on a modern AR and need rock-solid repeatability with the convenience of quick-detach functionality, this mount solves both problems in one machined package. The cantilever design throws your scope forward on the receiver, which means proper eye relief even with magnified optics—no cramping or scope bite on the firing line.

Built from 6061 T6 aluminum and finished in hard coat T3 Mil-Spec anodize, the Recon mount is engineered for real-world use. The matte finish resists glare without the upkeep of bare metal, and the material choice keeps weight down while maintaining the rigidity you need for repeatable zero. American Defense's reputation in this space isn't hype; they machine tight tolerances and finish properly.

Where the Recon really earns its place on your rifle is the patented QD Auto Lock System. This isn't a knockoff quick-release—it's designed to work reliably whether your Picatinny rail is in-spec or out, which matters if you've swapped upper receivers or carriers from different manufacturers. Mount your optic, lock it down, and trust it to stay put. When you need to swap it to another rifle or run iron sights, the quick-release gets you there without tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this mount work on my AR-15 upper receiver?

Yes, if your upper has a flat-top Picatinny rail. The Recon is designed specifically for this configuration. The cantilever style positions the scope forward on the receiver, not the handguard.

What's the QD Auto Lock System, and do I need tools to use it?

American Defense's patented QD system allows you to mount and remove your scope without tools. Press, twist, and it releases—or locks back down just as fast. The Auto Lock feature works reliably even if your rail isn't perfectly in-spec, which covers most real-world AR uppers.

Do I need to buy rings separately, or does this come with them?

The mount includes integrated rings, so you're ready to mount your optic right out of the box. No separate ring purchase needed.

Can I use this on a carrier or upper from a different manufacturer?

Yes. The Auto Lock System is designed to accommodate both in-spec and out-of-spec Picatinny rails, so manufacturing tolerances across different makers won't cause fitment issues.
