Nowlin
The Nowlin 45ACP stainless steel 1911 gunsmith barrel is built for shooters who demand precision. This 5-inch ramped barrel is engineered with match-grade tolerances and designed to drop into your 1911 project with minimal fitting—making it an excellent choice for custom builds, competition work, or a reliable upgrade to an existing platform. The pre-cut top lug design saves you time and keeps you within tight headspace specs once properly reamed.
Nowlin barrels are triple heat-treated and machined using electro-discharge cathode (ECM) technology to hold groove and bore tolerances to .0002 inch—the kind of precision that separates good barrels from great ones. The ultra-smooth, uniform rifling reduces friction, helping you squeeze more velocity from your ammunition across all barrel lengths. That smooth bore doesn't just boost performance; it also eases cleaning and extends the life of your barrel.
The ramped design includes an angled edge on the driving band that improves gas seal, reducing fouling and wear regardless of bullet type. This is the kind of thoughtful engineering that pays dividends downrange. Fair warning: this barrel ships short-chambered and requires reaming to achieve correct headspace before installation—plan accordingly if you're sending it to a gunsmith or have the tools and knowledge in-house.
| Caliber | .45 ACP |
| Platform | 1911 |
| Barrel Length | 5 inches |
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Design | Ramped, pre-cut lugs |
| Chambering | Short-chambered; requires reaming for headspace |
| Bore Tolerance | .0002 inch |
| Machining Process | Electro-discharge cathode (ECM) |
This barrel ships short-chambered and requires reaming to achieve correct headspace before installation. If you have the reaming tools and headspace gauges, you can do it yourself; otherwise, plan on having a qualified 1911 gunsmith handle the final fitting and chambering work.
The top lugs are pre-cut to minimize fitting work on your build. You'll still need minor fitting to achieve maximum lug engagement and proper headspace, but it's a significant head start compared to a completely unfit barrel.
Yes, this is a standard 5-inch 1911 barrel designed for typical .45 ACP 1911 platforms. Confirm your specific frame is a standard configuration before ordering.
The angled edge improves the gas seal between barrel and slide, which reduces fouling buildup and extends barrel life—benefits you'll see with any bullet type you run through it.
