Winchester
The Winchester Long Beard XR NWTF is a premium 12-gauge 3-inch turkey load built to honor five decades of the National Wild Turkey Federation's conservation work. This isn't nostalgia ammo—it's a serious hunting round engineered for the long-range turkey hunter who expects consistent, lethal patterns well beyond typical distances. Each shell carries 1-3/4 oz of #5 copper-plated shot downrange at 1200 fps, delivering the penetration and energy density you need when your bird is 50+ yards out.
What sets the Long Beard XR apart is Shot-Lok technology, which shields pellets from deformation during firing and acceleration. That means tighter, more uniform patterns than conventional loads—tighter patterns equal more hits in the vital zone when you're shooting at small targets at distance. The #5 shot size is the sweet spot for turkey: large enough for deep penetration on heavy birds, small enough to pack enough pellets per shot for reliable coverage. You're not guessing whether you'll connect; you're stacking the odds in your favor.
Winchester designed this load in partnership with NWTF, so every shell reflects the real-world demands of serious turkey hunters. Whether you're hunting timber edges, open fields, or rolling terrain, this ammunition is built to perform when the moment matters most. Ten rounds per box means you've got enough for a full season of practice and hunting confidence.
| Gauge | 12 |
| Shell Length | 3" |
| Shot Payload | 1-3/4 oz |
| Shot Size | #5 Copper Plated |
| Muzzle Velocity | 1200 fps |
| Rounds per Box | 10 |
Shot-Lok is Winchester's pellet protection system that prevents deformation during firing and acceleration. Deformed pellets don't fly true and create ragged, unreliable patterns. By keeping pellets round and uniform, Shot-Lok ensures tighter, denser patterns downrange—critical when you're aiming at the small vital zone of a turkey at 50+ yards.
Winchester optimized this load with #5 shot for long-range turkey hunting. #5 provides the ideal balance of penetration and pellet density—enough mass to drive deep into a turkey's vitals, but enough pellets in each shot to deliver the pattern density you need at distance. This is a proven, field-tested load size.
This is a 3-inch shotshell, so it will chamber in 12-gauge shotguns rated for 3-inch shells. Always verify your shotgun's chamber length before shooting—your gun's receiver will have it marked.
This load was designed in partnership with the National Wild Turkey Federation to commemorate 50 years of the organization's work in turkey hunting and conservation. It's both a tribute to that legacy and a modern, high-performance turkey cartridge built to NWTF standards for serious hunters.
