The Winchester Model 1892 Deluxe Takedown in 44-40 is a lever-action rifle built on one of the most iconic actions ever designed. With its 24-inch octagon barrel and takedown design, this rifle combines historical authenticity with practical versatility—perfect for hunters, Cowboy Action shooters, and anyone drawn to classic American rifle craftsmanship. The 44-40 Winchester chambering pairs traditional ballistics with the Model 1892's reputation for smooth, reliable operation in the field or on the range.
This isn't a budget reimagining; it's a genuine high-grade rifle. The color case hardened receiver, forearm cap, and steel shotgun buttplate deliver that warm, varied patina that only proper case hardening provides. The barrel is polished to a deep blue, button rifled for consistent accuracy, and the Grade V/VI walnut pistol-grip stock feels substantial in hand. Every metal-to-wood fit reflects Winchester's commitment to the standard that made the 1892 legendary across ranches, homesteads, and shooting sports.
The 44-40 is a cartridge with real history and real performance for medium-range hunting and target work. The rifle's lever action cycles smooth and fast, and the top tang safety sits exactly where your thumb expects to find it. Marble Arms gold bead front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight are ready to go, and the top tang is drilled and tapped if you want to add a peep sight for refined accuracy. The takedown feature means you can break the rifle down for transport or storage without tools.
This is the rifle your grandfather's grandfather might have carried—except Winchester built it with modern machining and quality control. Whether you're setting up for Cowboy Action competition, hunting medium game, or just appreciating one of the finest lever guns ever made, the Model 1892 Deluxe Takedown earns its place in the rack.
