The Winchester 70 Super Grade in .270 WSM is a bolt-action rifle built for hunters who refuse to compromise on accuracy, elegance, or dependability. Chambered in the hard-hitting .270 Winchester Short Magnum, this rifle delivers flat-shooting ballistics and substantial energy out to extended range—a cartridge favored by serious big-game hunters pursuing elk, mule deer, and similar game. The Super Grade's 24-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is free-floated and crowned for consistent precision, while the rifle's one-piece steel bottom metal and fully bedded receiver eliminate the mechanical shifts that compromise zero. Whether you're hunting remote country or punching paper at the range, this is a rifle engineered to shoot.

The Super Grade earns its name through old-school gunmaking: Grade IV/V fancy walnut, a shadowline cheekpiece that naturally aligns your eye with your optic, highly polished deep-blue metal, and a three-position safety that shows status at a glance. The pre-'64 controlled round feed system with claw extractor—a design Winchester perfected decades ago—keeps your cartridge secure from magazine feed through ejection. The M.O.A. trigger system delivers zero take-up, zero creep, and zero overtravel, giving you the crisp break serious shooters demand. A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad manages the .270 WSM's punch without sacrificing feel.

This is a rifle that respects tradition while delivering modern accuracy. The 44.25-inch overall length and 8-pound weight strike a practical balance for both stand hunting and mountain work. If you're looking for a .270 WSM that performs as beautifully as it shoots, the Winchester 70 Super Grade is a legitimate choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the .270 WSM different from a standard .270 Winchester?

The .270 WSM is a shorter, fatter cartridge that delivers higher velocity and energy in a magnum package. It's designed for modern bolt-action rifles and provides flat trajectories and substantial impact energy, making it popular for hunting larger game and shooting at distance.

Will this rifle fit in a standard rifle case?

With an overall length of 44.25 inches, the Winchester 70 Super Grade fits in most full-size rifle cases and soft scabbards. Check your specific case dimensions to be certain, but standard hard cases and soft cases designed for rifles of this length will accommodate it.

What kind of scope mounting system does this rifle use?

The Winchester 70 Super Grade uses a standard Picatinny rail or Winchester-style top receiver with scope ring mounts. You'll need Weaver or Picatinny rings compatible with your preferred optic. The rifle does not come with rings or a scope; those are purchased separately.

Is the walnut stock finished, or will I need to maintain it?

The satin black walnut stock comes finished from the factory, but like all walnut stocks, it will benefit from occasional light oiling to maintain appearance and water resistance over time. No additional finishing is required out of the box.
