The Wilson Combat Ambidextrous Tactical Thumb Safety is a drop-in replacement safety lever built for shooters who demand true ambidextrous operation on their 1911 pistol. Whether you're left-handed, train both-handed, or compete in tactical disciplines, this safety eliminates the compromise of a standard right-side-only design. Both levers are extended and serrated for positive engagement under stress, with the left side slightly wider than the right to balance ergonomics across both hands.

Wilson Combat engineered this safety with concealed carry and competition shooting in mind. The extended design means you can manipulate the safety decisively without shifting your grip, and the serrated surface resists your thumb slipping under recoil or in less-than-ideal conditions. The polished blue finish integrates seamlessly with most 1911 builds and carries well inside the waistband.

Installation requires minor fitting—this is not a universal bolt-on for every frame geometry out there. If you're handy with a file or have a gunsmith on speed dial, the result is a safety that transforms your 1911 into a truly ambidextrous platform. For left-handed shooters especially, this beats the awkward fumbling of a unidirectional safety, and for right-handers running modern shooting techniques, it opens up strong support-hand transitions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this ambidextrous 1911 safety fit my pistol?

This safety is designed for 1911 pistols and requires minor fitting. Frame geometry varies between manufacturers and models, so professional installation or gunsmithing expertise is recommended to ensure proper function and safety.

Is this safety good for left-handed shooters?

Yes. The ambidextrous design with an extended left lever sized slightly wider than the right makes it ideal for left-handed operation, and it works equally well for right-handers training support-hand transitions.

What's included, and what do I need to install it?

The package includes the ambidextrous safety lever assembly. Installation requires minor fitting, which may involve careful file work to ensure the lever moves freely and the safety engages and disengages reliably. A gunsmith can handle this if you prefer professional installation.

Is this safety suitable for concealed carry?

Yes. Wilson Combat designed this safety with concealed carry in mind. The extended, serrated levers provide positive control without shifting your grip, and the polished blue finish integrates with standard 1911 aesthetics and carry configurations.
