Wilson Combat
The Wilson Combat Shok-Buff Recoil System is a straightforward upgrade for shooters running a 1911 Government in .45 ACP who want smoother cycling and reduced wear without gunsmithing. This drop-in recoil system pairs a full-length guide rod with injection-molded polyfiber buffers that absorb impact where it matters most—between the slide and frame. If you've felt the hammer blow of full-power competition loads or simply want your 1911 to run cleaner and last longer, this is the kind of practical upgrade that pays dividends over time.
The core advantage here is simplicity: there's no frame or slide modification required, and installation is straightforward enough for most shooters comfortable doing basic 1911 maintenance. The polyfiber buffers slip onto the guide rod and sit between the barrel link area and the recoil spring, preventing the slide from bottoming out hard against the frame. That alone cuts felt recoil noticeably and eliminates a major source of frame peening and spring fatigue. The full-length guide rod keeps the recoil spring centered and straight throughout the stroke, which translates to more consistent barrel lockup and tighter groups downrange.
Whether you're running your Government for tactical work, competition, or just punishing it with hot handloads, the Shok-Buff system is one of those upgrades that makes your gun work better without asking for much in return. No permanent modifications, no complicated installation, just measurably improved reliability and longevity.

Yes. This system is designed as a drop-in recoil upgrade for 1911 Government models chambered in .45 ACP and requires no modifications to the frame or slide.
No. The Shok-Buff is a straightforward swap that most shooters can handle themselves with basic 1911 disassembly knowledge. There's no permanent modification involved.
The system includes a full-length guide rod and injection-molded polyfiber buffers that work together to manage recoil and protect your frame.
Yes. The polyfiber buffers absorb impact and soften felt recoil, which is especially noticeable when running high-power competition ammunition or handloads. The system also prevents frame damage that can result from repeated hard cycling.
