The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 TI Carbon in 6.5-300 Wby Mag is a purpose-built long-range hunting rifle engineered for backcountry hunters who refuse to compromise between portability and precision. This isn't a do-everything rifle—it's built for serious hunters willing to pack light and shoot far. The combination of a titanium Mark V action, carbon fiber barrel, and carbon fiber stock delivers genuine weight savings without the usual accuracy penalty that lighter rigs often carry.
What sets the Backcountry 2.0 Ti Carbon apart is obsessive attention to weight reduction and recoil management. The rifle starts at just 5.3 lbs, making it genuinely packable for long days in steep country. Every component was evaluated for weight: the bolt body features spiral fluting to shed ounces while smoothing action function, and the bolt handle is fitted with a lightweight skeletonized aluminum knob. The Accubrake ST muzzle brake harnesses the 6.5-300's magnum recoil with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports, keeping the shot manageable without excessive blast.
The stock is Weatherby's Peak 44 Blacktooth—claimed as the lightest production carbon fiber stock available—finished in a Grey and White sponge pattern that works in open country. Raw titanium on the action pairs with exposed carbon on the barrel and stock, while other metalwork is sealed behind black ceramic Cerakote. The second-generation 3DHEX recoil pad is a 3D-printed pad with interlocking voids that collapse progressively, expanding the recoil impulse over time to reduce felt kick. The 26-inch #4 contour carbon barrel has a 1-in-8 twist and comes fitted with the Accubrake ST pre-installed.
Weatherby's track record with this barrel platform is real: a Carbonmark equipped with this same barrel set an internal accuracy record at 0.06 inches for a 3-shot group at 100 yards using factory Weatherby Select Plus ammunition. That's the kind of precision hunters need when opportunities are rare and distances are long.

Yes on both counts. At 5.3 lbs, it's genuinely packable for serious backcountry hunts. Weatherby's carbon fiber barrel platform has proven track record—a factory rifle with this exact barrel achieved a 0.06-inch 3-shot group at 100 yards using Weatherby Select Plus ammunition. Light doesn't mean inaccurate when you build it right.
The 3DHEX pad is a 3D-printed pad with interlocking voids inside that progressively collapse during recoil. This extends the recoil impulse over a longer time period, which significantly reduces felt kick. Combined with the Accubrake ST brake, it makes the 6.5-300 Wby Mag genuinely pleasant to shoot despite being a magnum.
The rifle is fitted with a Weatherby Accubrake ST, which features 30 symmetrically-spaced ports designed specifically to manage magnum recoil. The muzzle is threaded, so you can swap brakes or suppressors if needed.
