Underwood Ammo
Underwood Ammo Controlled Chaos .223 Rem rifle ammunition is engineered for shooters who need reliable, controlled terminal performance without the compromises of traditional lead rounds. This 62-grain solid projectile is built around Underwood's proprietary Controlled Chaos technology—a design born from real-world animal control and varmint hunting demands where precision wound trauma matters. Loaded to 3100 fps, each 20-round box arrives in nickel-plated brass casings that feed reliably across all action types and resist corrosion better than standard brass during storage and field use.
The Controlled Chaos bullet works by penetrating to a predetermined depth, then fracturing into smaller particles as internal hydraulic pressure exceeds the nose design's hoop strength. This fracturing releases a massive energy spike that radiates outward, creating a significant temporary cavity near the central nervous system with proper shot placement. That immediate energy transfer sends a shock wave through the circulatory and nervous systems, delivering the terminal effect varmint and predator hunters demand. Unlike copper matrix frangibles, Controlled Chaos particles are optimized for the penetration depth and energy transfer required for consistent, ethical performance in the field.
All Underwood rounds use flash-suppressed powder, so if you're shooting in low light—whether during a predawn stand or in an emergency—your vision stays intact and your night adaptation isn't blown away. The nickel-plated cases won't tarnish in your ammo box or against leather and moisture, keeping your cartridges looking and feeding like new. This is the load to grab for varmint hunting, predator control, or any application where you need a lead-free round that actually performs like it's supposed to.

Controlled Chaos is Underwood's proprietary bullet design that fractures at a predetermined penetration depth, releasing smaller particles with greater initial energy transfer than copper matrix frangibles. The technology was developed specifically to deliver reliable terminal performance in varmint and animal control work where wound trauma and energy spike matter most.
Yes. The Controlled Chaos design was developed based on animal control agency requirements for reliable, controlled terminal performance. The 62-grain projectile at 3100 fps is well-suited for varmint hunting applications.
Nickel-plated cases offer enhanced corrosion resistance, improved feeding in all firearm actions, and better appearance. They won't tarnish when stored or exposed to moisture and other materials the way traditional brass does, keeping your ammunition ready when you need it.
The nickel-plated brass casings are engineered for reliable feeding across all action types. We always recommend consulting your firearm's manual and testing a small quantity to confirm performance in your specific rifle.
