The Spyderco C08S Harpy is a serrated folding knife built around one of the most distinctive blade shapes in cutlery: the hawkbill. If you work with rope, webbing, seat belts, or any material that demands controlled, precise slicing without the knife skating across the surface, the Harpy's curved geometry and aggressive serrations do what a straight blade can't. The 2.75" VG-10 stainless steel blade holds an edge well and resists corrosion, making it reliable in wet conditions or saltwater environments where carbon steel would give you grief. Whether you're an outdoorsperson who relies on a knife for camp tasks, a first responder, or anyone who appreciates a specialized tool that actually earns its place in your pocket, the Harpy punches well above its compact size.

VG-10 steel is a Japanese stainless formulation known for finding the middle ground between edge retention and ease of sharpening—you get decent longevity without needing exotic equipment to maintain it. The serrated edge accelerates bite through tough materials; it's not a general-purpose blade, but that's the point. Spyderco's design philosophy favors function over fashion, and the Harpy embodies that without apology.

The stainless steel handle matches the blade material, eliminating the galvanic corrosion that can plague mixed-metal folders. A pocket clip is included, so you can carry it clipped to a belt, pack strap, or pocket without hunting for a sheath. This knife is built to be carried and used, not admired in a case.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hawkbill blade shape best used for?

The hawkbill's curved geometry excels at slicing rope, webbing, seat belts, and other materials where you need control and bite without the blade wandering. The serrated edge on the Harpy amplifies this advantage, grabbing and cutting rather than skating. It's a specialized tool, not a general-purpose slicer.

Is the C08S Harpy corrosion-resistant?

Yes. Both the VG-10 stainless steel blade and the stainless steel handle resist corrosion, making it suitable for use in wet conditions, near saltwater, or other damp environments where carbon steel would require more frequent maintenance.

Does the pocket clip come included?

Yes, the C08S Harpy includes a pocket clip for carry.

What makes VG-10 steel a good choice for a serrated blade?

VG-10 is a Japanese stainless steel that balances edge retention with relative ease of sharpening. It holds a serrated edge well without demanding specialized or exotic maintenance tools.
