SIERRA BULLETS
The Sierra Varminter 22 Cal 60-Grain Hollow Point Bullets deliver the precision and explosive expansion serious reloaders need for consistent varmint hunting performance. Built on Sierra's time-tested Varminter-style construction, these .224-diameter projectiles excel at the velocities generated by high-capacity rifle cartridges—the 22-250 and 220 Swift are where they truly shine. Each box contains 100 bullets ready to load, making them a practical choice for handloaders who demand both accuracy and terminal performance in the field.
These 60-grain hollow points are engineered to stabilize reliably in rifles with 1:14 twist barrels, typical of larger-capacity varmint cases, and they've proven themselves across decades of use since their introduction in 1984. If you're running a 223 Remington or other medium-capacity .22 centerfire, plan on using a faster twist rate (1:12 or quicker) to get the best results from this bullet's ballistic profile.
Long-range accuracy combined with dependable expansion at varmint distances makes the Sierra Varminter a trusted reload component for prairie dogs, coyotes, and other medium-sized game. The hollow-point design delivers the upset you need while maintaining the sectional density required for downrange performance. Whether you're running hot loads in a Swift or stepping up from standard .223 velocities, these bullets deliver the terminal characteristics that have made them a staple in reloading benches for generations.
| Caliber | .22 (Centerfire) |
| Bullet Weight | 60 Grains |
| Diameter | 0.224 inches |
| Style | Hollow Point (Varminter) |
| Sectional Density | 0.171 |
| Ballistic Coefficient (2800+ fps) | 0.246 |
| Ballistic Coefficient (2000–2800 fps) | 0.240 |
| Ballistic Coefficient (below 2000 fps) | 0.246 |
| Recommended Twist Rate | 1:14 (for high-capacity cases); 1:12 or faster (for medium-capacity cases like .223 Rem) |
| Count Per Box | 100 Bullets |
These bullets are designed for high-velocity .22 centerfire cartridges, with the 22-250 and 220 Swift being ideal platforms. They also perform well in the 223 Remington, though you'll want a 1:12 or faster twist barrel for optimal stability in that medium-capacity case. Always verify bullet/twist compatibility with your specific rifle before loading.
A 1:14 twist stabilizes them reliably in larger-capacity cases like the 22-250 and 220 Swift. If you're using a 223 Remington or similar medium-capacity cartridge, a 1:12 twist or faster is recommended for consistent accuracy and expansion.
Yes—the Varminter-style hollow-point construction delivers explosive expansion on varmints at typical hunting distances, making them excellent for prairie dogs, coyotes, and similar game. They are not recommended for handgun use, despite their hollow-point design.
Sierra's 60-grain .224 Varminter (model #1375) was introduced in 1984 and has become a proven, trusted reloading component for generations of handloaders pursuing precision varmint hunting.
