SIERRA BULLETS
The Sierra Tipped MatchKing (TMK) 30 caliber 155 grain bullet is a flat-based round built for shooters who demand precision across AR and bolt-action platforms. Engineered with a polymer tip and boat-tail design, the TMK combines the accuracy heritage Sierra is known for with improved ballistic performance for mid-range velocity cartridges like the .300 AAC Blackout and standard .308 applications. The acetal resin tip boosts ballistic coefficient, helping maintain velocity and flatter trajectories downrange—a real advantage for distance shooting and training where consistent, predictable performance matters.
This is a precision-first bullet. Sierra MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing designs are built for accuracy, not expansion, which makes them ideal for target shooting, precision rifle competitions, and range work where you're chasing tight groups and repeatable shots. The jacket is engineered to withstand the velocity range of common .30 caliber mid-level loads, making the TMK a solid choice for reloaders working up consistent ammunition for AR-15 builds and bolt guns. If you're looking to reload ammo that shoots flat and true, this is a workable option—but know what you're buying: this is a match-grade bullet, not a hunting round.
Reloaders appreciate TMK bullets for their consistency and the ability to wring precision out of quality ammunition. Whether you're hand-loading for a precision rifle class, building subsonic .300 Blackout loads, or simply want repeatable accuracy at the range, the 155 grain TMK gives you the ballistic profile to dial in your rifle and trust your loads.
| Caliber | .30 caliber (.308 diameter) |
| Bullet Weight | 155 grains |
| Style | Tipped MatchKing (TMK), Polymer Tip, Boat Tail |
| Base Type | Flat base |
| Ballistic Coefficient (BC) | .519 @ 1900 fps and above; .490 between 1900–1600 fps; .420 @ 1600 fps and below |
| Intended Use | Target shooting, precision rifle, range training |
No. MatchKing and Tipped MatchKing bullets are match-grade designs built for accuracy and precision shooting. They are not recommended for most hunting applications. While they are sometimes used in varmint hunting, their design does not provide reliable explosive expansion compared to Sierra's Hornet Blitz or Varminter bullets at equivalent velocities. Use them for target shooting and range work.
The 155 grain .308 diameter Tipped MatchKing is designed for .30 caliber cartridges, including the .300 AAC Blackout, and will fit standard .308 Winchester and bolt-action .30 caliber magazine feeds. The jacket handles velocities from common mid-level .30 caliber loads. Always verify compatibility with your specific cartridge and rifle before loading.
The ballistic coefficient (BC) of this bullet varies across velocity ranges: .519 BC above 1900 fps, .490 BC between 1900–1600 fps, and .420 BC below 1600 fps. This accounts for how the bullet behaves aerodynamically at different speeds. Higher velocity = higher BC and better downrange performance. Use the BC that matches your expected muzzle velocity for more accurate external ballistic calculations.
Yes. The flat-base design of the 155 grain TMK is compatible with AR platform magazines and feeders. This makes them a practical choice for reloaders building .300 AAC Blackout and other .30 caliber AR ammunition.
