SIERRA BULLETS
The Sierra 1740MP MatchKing is a 6.5mm 140-grain rifle bullet purpose-built for target shooting and precision rifle competition. These hollow-point boat-tail rounds represent Sierra's flagship line of match-grade projectiles, engineered from the ground up with accuracy as the singular design priority. If you're loading ammunition for long-range target work, benchrest competition, or precision rifle matches, the MatchKing's proven track record speaks for itself—these bullets have won more target competitions globally than any other manufacturer's match bullets combined.
What sets the 1740MP apart is its obsessive attention to concentricity and weight consistency. Each bullet is drawn to a maximum runout variation of 0.0003 inches and held to within ±0.3 grain—tolerances that matter when you're chasing sub-minute-of-angle groups at distance. The hollow-point design incorporates a minimal meplat (tip opening) optimized for ballistic coefficient, while the boat-tail profile further reduces drag and improves downrange performance. These aren't compromises; they're the direct result of decades of match-bullet refinement.
Sierra manufactures MatchKing bullets to exacting quality standards that reflect their competition heritage. You're getting 250 rounds per box of ammunition components ready for your reloading press. This is precision tooling in bullet form—ideal for handloaders who demand consistency shot after shot, whether you're developing loads for a dedicated match rifle or fine-tuning a precision platform for group evaluation.
A word of caution: MatchKing bullets are optimized for target and competition use. They are not recommended for hunting applications, where controlled expansion and weight retention under impact demand different design priorities.
| Caliber | 6.5mm |
| Weight | 140 grains |
| Bullet Type | Hollow Point Boat Tail (HPBT) |
| Quantity per Box | 250 |
| Concentricity Tolerance | 0.0003 inches maximum |
| Weight Tolerance | ±0.3 grain |
No. MatchKing bullets are purpose-designed for target shooting and competition use. Sierra does not recommend them for hunting applications due to their design priorities, which favor accuracy and ballistic coefficient over the expansion and weight retention characteristics required for ethical game harvest.
Extreme concentricity control (0.0003 inches maximum runout), tight weight tolerance (±0.3 grain), a precisely engineered hollow-point design with minimal meplat, and a boat-tail profile that minimizes drag. These factors combine to deliver the consistency required for competition-grade accuracy.
These are 6.5mm (.264 inch) diameter bullets. They are compatible with 6.5mm rifle cartridges such as 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington, 6.5x55 Swedish, and similar calibers. Always verify bore diameter and bullet seating depth for your specific firearm and cartridge before loading.
Each box contains 250 Sierra MatchKing bullets, providing a full batch for handloaders developing match loads or preparing for competition.
