RCBS
The RCBS Shell Holder #42 is a precision reloading component engineered to keep your cases properly aligned during the reloading process. Whether you're working a single-stage press or a turret setup, this shell holder ensures consistent case positioning with the die—critical for producing safe, accurate ammunition. Built from hardened steel for durability and reliability across thousands of rounds, it's the kind of unglamorous but essential tool that separates careful handloaders from those cutting corners.
Shell holders are case-specific, meaning each number corresponds to particular cartridge head dimensions. The #42 is sized to grip 0.125 inch of the case head, establishing the proper headspace relationship that SAAMI standards demand. This secure capture prevents case drift during resizing, decapping, or bullet seating—any movement at this stage can cascade into precision loss or, worse, safety issues downstream.
If you're building ammunition for accuracy and consistency, you already know that reloading quality starts with the fundamentals. A quality shell holder is one of those fundamentals. RCBS has been the reloading standard for decades because they understand that equipment designed around established standards just works, every time.
| Brand | RCBS |
| Holder Number | #42 |
| Material | Hardened Steel |
| Case Head Grip Depth | 0.125 inch |
| Compatible Press Types | Single-Stage, Turret |
The #42 is sized to fit specific case head dimensions. You'll need to verify your particular cartridge is compatible with #42 sizing—shell holders are cartridge-specific, so checking your cartridge's specs or your press manual is essential before purchasing.
Yes. The RCBS #42 is designed to work in both single-stage presses and turret presses, making it versatile for different reloading setups.
That precise grip depth positions your case so the die aligns correctly with the case head, establishing proper headspace according to SAAMI standards. This consistency is what prevents case drift and ensures uniform reloading results across your batch.
