The RCBS 31401 Full Length Die Set for 7mm WSM gives you the core reloading dies needed to consistently prepare bottleneck rifle cartridges for firing. This two-die set includes a full length sizing die and a seater die—the fundamental tools that let you resize fired cases, manage primer pockets, and seat bullets with control. Whether you're building ammo for a magnum rifle or working up a handload, a full length die set is where most reloaders start, and many shooters use a single set through multiple barrel changes and thousands of rounds.
The full length sizing die resizes the entire case body so it chambers smoothly in your rifle, bumps the shoulder as you adjust the die position, and removes the spent primer in one stroke. The expander ball inside the die sizes the case neck to proper tension for bullet seating. You'll need to lube cases before sizing—a straightforward step that protects both your cases and your die. The included seater die seats bullets with precision and features a built-in crimp ring you can engage or disengage by adjusting die height, giving you the flexibility to crimp or load without crimp depending on your ammunition specifications and rifle needs.
RCBS die sets are engineered for reliability and ease of setup. New reloaders benefit most by mastering full length sizing and seating before moving into specialty dies like neck-sizing or competition-specific tools. If you're loading for a 7mm WSM magnum rifle, this die set handles the cartridge geometry correctly and scales to the pressure demands of the round.
| Cartridge | 7mm Winchester Short Magnum (WSM) |
| Die Type | Full Length Rifle Die Set |
| Dies Included | 2 (Full Length Sizing Die and Seater Die) |
| Manufacturer | RCBS |
| Model Number | 31401 |
Yes. Cases must be lubricated before full length sizing to protect the case and the die during the resize stroke.
The seater die has a built-in crimp ring that you can engage or disengage by adjusting the die height in the press, so you have the flexibility to crimp or not crimp as your ammunition design requires.
RCBS recommends using a cartridge headspace gage tool to verify correct shoulder bump. The full length sizing die adjustment controls how far the shoulder is bumped, and proper setup ensures your reloaded rounds chamber consistently.
A full length die set is the core reloading tool, but you'll also need a reloading press, powder scale, calipers, primers, powder, and bullets. Many new reloaders start by learning full length sizing and seating before exploring specialty dies.
