Proof Research
The Proof Research 106501 is a premium bolt-action barrel blank built for precision shooters and custom gunbuilders who demand uncompromising accuracy in the 284 caliber. This 24-inch Sendero contour barrel combines Proof's signature carbon fiber wrap technology with a 1:8" twist rate, engineered to stabilize a wide range of 284 loads while keeping overall weight manageable at just over 3 pounds. Whether you're assembling a long-range hunting rifle or a competition build, this is the kind of foundation that separates precision builds from the rest.
Proof Research barrels are known in the precision community for consistent bore quality and tight manufacturing tolerances. The carbon fiber wrapped construction reduces weight without sacrificing rigidity, a key advantage when you're working with a heavier Sendero profile. The 5-groove rifling works with that 1:8" twist to deliver the rotational stability modern magnum cartridges and heavier bullets demand. This blank arrives ready for your gunsmith to chamber, thread, and fit to your action, giving you total control over the final build.
The Sendero contour tapers from the breech (2.5") to a manageable muzzle diameter, balancing the stiffness you need for precision shooting with the practical weight handling of a field rifle. If you're building a custom 284 and want a barrel that'll live up to your action and trigger, this is engineered for the job.
| Caliber | 284 |
| Barrel Length | 24" |
| Twist Rate | 1:8" |
| Contour | Sendero |
| Breech Diameter | 2.5" |
| Shank Diameter | 1.20" |
| Rifling | 5-Groove |
| Weight | 3 lbs 1 oz |
| Construction | Carbon Fiber Wrapped |
This is a bolt-action barrel blank with a 1.20" shank diameter. Your gunsmith will fit it to your specific action (Remington 700, Tikka, custom, etc.) during the chambering and fitting process. Verify your action's compatibility with your gunsmith before ordering.
This is a blank—it requires professional gunsmith services. Your smith will chamber it to your chosen 284 variant, thread the muzzle (if desired), and fit it to your action. Do not attempt to install or chamber a barrel blank yourself.
The 1:8" twist rate is designed to stabilize a wide range of 284 caliber bullets. Your gunsmith and ammunition selection will determine the final performance envelope. Consult with your smith on the best powders and bullets for your specific build.
Proof Research's carbon fiber wrap reduces overall weight while maintaining barrel stiffness and precision. The Sendero contour combined with the wrap gives you a barrel that handles field conditions without the heft of a traditional steel profile of the same rigidity.
