3M Peltor
The 3M Peltor ComTac V headset with microphone brings professional-grade communication and hearing protection to the tactical, law enforcement, and shooting range environment. If you're running drills, working in high-noise settings, or coordinating with a team over radio, the ComTac V pairs active hearing protection with clear two-way audio capability—designed to let you hear critical communications and ambient sound while blocking impulse noise that can damage hearing.
What sets the ComTac V apart is its MT33 boom microphone, which delivers 18dB of noise cancellation compared to legacy designs—a meaningful upgrade for transmitting clean voice over radio in loud conditions. The headset also features omni-directional environmental microphones that capture natural ambient sound with a strong signal-to-noise ratio, so you maintain situational awareness during standby. The modern rubberized headband offers better durability in harsh field conditions and can be swapped for ARC (Accessory Rail Connection) adapters if you need to mount the headset on a helmet or rail system.
3M has hardened the ComTac V against RF (radio frequency) and EMI interference from modern software-defined radios, adding shielding within the cable and circuitry to keep the audio clean even with new high-power radio systems. The headset uses a U-174 plug and connects directly to standard push-to-talk radio adapters, so integration into your existing gear is straightforward. Whether you're managing cross-talk on a busy net, running low-light CQB training, or just need rugged ear pro that doesn't isolate you completely, the ComTac V balances protection with the communication and listening capability serious shooters and operators depend on.
| Microphone Type | MT33 boom microphone with omni-directional environmental microphones |
| Noise Cancellation (Microphone) | 18dB (measured at 10mm distance, normalized to 0dB at 1kHz) |
| Audio Output | High-fidelity stereo speakers |
| Connector | U-174 plug |
| Mounting Options | Rubberized headband or ARC (Accessory Rail Connection) |
| Hearing Protection | Impulse noise suppression and steady-state noise attenuation |
| Features | Talk-through for face-to-face communication, dual communications capability, environmental listening mode |
| Color | Black |
The ComTac V connects via a U-174 plug and works directly with standard push-to-talk radio adapters. It is engineered to function with modern software-defined radios and has been hardened against RF and EMI interference from newer radio systems, so compatibility is broad across both legacy and current platforms.
Yes. The headset ships with a rubberized headband but can be converted to use ARC (Accessory Rail Connection) mounts if you prefer to attach it to a helmet rail or other ARC-compatible system. The headband is removable and the conversion is straightforward.
The MT33 boom microphone provides 18dB of noise cancellation, compared to 6dB in earlier Peltor boom designs. This significantly reduces background noise in your transmitted voice, making radio traffic clearer and easier to understand in high-noise operational environments.
The ComTac V actively suppresses impulse noise (like gunshots or explosions) while allowing ambient sound and communications to pass through. This dual function lets you maintain hearing protection and situational awareness without the isolation of passive foam earplugs.
