Old Timer
The Old Timer Trail Boss caping knife is a purpose-built fixed blade designed for hunters and field dressers who need a reliable tool that handles the precision work of processing game. Built on a full tang design with an 8Cr stainless steel blade, this knife delivers the edge retention and corrosion resistance that matters when you're working in the field, whether you're breaking down elk, deer, or upland game.
The 3.7-inch caping blade offers the control and maneuverability that serious hunters demand for detailed work—skinning, caping, and butchering tasks where a larger blade would be unwieldy. The non-slip TPE grip handle stays secure in wet or bloody conditions, and the ergonomic design reduces hand fatigue during extended use. This is the kind of knife that earns a permanent spot in your pack or hunting vest.
The custom fit sheath keeps the blade protected and accessible, whether you're hanging it on your belt or stowing it in a rucksack. Old Timer has built a reputation on making honest, hardworking outdoor knives, and the Trail Boss continues that tradition without unnecessary complexity or hype. If you're serious about field dressing and processing your harvest cleanly and efficiently, this caping knife is worth carrying.

A caping knife is designed for detail work in field dressing and processing game. The shorter, manageable blade gives you the precision and control needed for skinning, caping (separating hide from skull for trophy prep), and controlled butchering—tasks where a larger hunting knife would be clumsy.
8Cr stainless steel offers solid corrosion resistance and edge retention, making it a practical choice for field use where your knife may be exposed to blood, moisture, and the elements. That said, like any stainless blade, regular cleaning and drying will extend its working life.
Yes, the knife includes a custom fit sheath designed to securely hold the blade and allow safe carry on your belt or pack.
The non-slip TPE handle is specifically designed to maintain grip control in wet and bloody field conditions—a key feature for serious hunters who need a blade that doesn't slip under challenging circumstances.
