Lyman
The Lyman Pro Series Micrometer Taper Crimp Die for .45 Auto gives you surgical control over one of the most critical steps in handload precision: the crimp. Whether you're loading match-grade rounds for competition or building reliable carry ammunition, inconsistent crimping can throw accuracy downrange and reliability into question. This die eliminates guesswork with a micrometer-adjustable head that lets you dial in the exact crimp depth you need—down to a few thousandths of an inch—and reproduce it round after round.
The heart of the system is a floating crimp sleeve that centers each cartridge as it enters the die, then applies a controlled taper crimp without deforming the case neck or bullet. That floating design is the key to consistency: the case finds its own center rather than relying on your press alignment alone, which means better, more uniform results across your entire batch. Once you've dialed in your crimp depth, you're done tweaking—just load and trust the numbers.
Built from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, this die will outlast years of heavy use without rust or degradation. It's the kind of tool that pays for itself in the confidence it gives you when you know every round in your magazine has been crimped to spec.
| Caliber | .45 Auto |
| Die Type | Taper Crimp Die |
| Material | Stainless Steel |
| Feature | Micrometer Adjustable Head |
| Crimp Sleeve | Floating |
This die applies a taper crimp, which is the standard for most modern centerfire pistol rounds including .45 Auto. A taper crimp squeezes the case neck inward gradually rather than rolling it over, which is gentler on the bullet and cartridge case and is preferred for semiauto pistols.
The micrometer head on top of the die lets you dial in your crimp depth in small increments. Once you've found the setting that works for your ammunition, you simply turn the micrometer to that number each time you load, and the floating crimp sleeve does the rest.
This is a standard .45 Auto reloading die and will fit any press that accepts standard die threads (7/8"-14). Check your press compatibility before ordering if you're unsure.
Yes. Once you've dialed in your settings, the consistent design and floating sleeve make it reliable for large batches. The stainless steel construction also holds up well to the wear and tear of repetitive use.
