Lyman
The Lyman Big Dipper Furnace Starter Kit is a complete lead melting solution designed to get reloaders casting their own bullets without the guesswork or scattered purchasing. This kit bundles the essentials for economical, efficient bullet casting—everything from the furnace itself to the lubricants and reference material you'll actually need. Whether you're looking to reduce ammunition costs or take full control of your load development, this kit removes the friction of sourcing components separately.
At the core is Lyman's Big Dipper electric casting furnace, which holds 10+ pounds of lead—enough capacity to keep you casting without constant reheating breaks. The kit includes a casting dipper for controlled pouring, an ingot mould for consolidating excess lead back into manageable form, and three different bullet lubes so you can experiment and find what works best for your cartridges and barrel conditions. The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook provides tested load data and casting fundamentals, while the instruction guide covers the full reloading and casting workflow from start to finish.
This is a no-frills, practical starter package for handloaders serious about casting. You get the heating equipment, the auxiliary tools, the consumables, and the documentation—nothing superfluous, nothing missing. If you've been considering bullet casting but didn't want to piece together a kit from separate purchases, this takes that decision off the table.
Yes. The kit is designed as a starter solution and includes the handbook and instruction guide to walk you through the casting process. All the core equipment and consumables are included, so you can begin right away without additional purchases.
The Big Dipper furnace melts lead for bullet casting; the specific calibers you can cast depend on which bullet moulds you source separately. The handbook included in the kit provides load data across common cartridges.
That information is not specified in the kit documentation. Refer to the instruction guide included or contact Lyman directly for heating time details.
The ingot mould is designed to consolidate excess lead into storable ingots for future casting sessions. Its use is limited to lead ingot formation.
