Lyman
Consistent primer ignition starts before you seat the cup—it starts with a clean, uniform flash hole. The Lyman 7777760 flash hole uniformer and deburring tool handles a critical step that separates careful reloaders from casual ones. Burrs left inside the flash hole disrupt spark flow to the powder charge, creating shot-to-shot ignition inconsistencies that ripple through your velocity and accuracy. This hand tool removes those obstructions in seconds, restoring the direct path that ignition demands. Whether you're prepping .22 Hornet brass or .45-70 Government cases, the adjustable stop collar adapts to your caliber range, making it a one-tool solution for the entire spectrum of rifle and handgun reloading.
The design prioritizes what matters: a cushioned, ergonomic polyurethane handle that won't fatigue your hand during the repetitive work of case prep, and a simple clockwise turning motion to uniformly deburr each flash hole. No complicated setup, no guesswork—insert through the case mouth and turn. For reloaders building match-grade rifle ammunition or anyone who takes consistency seriously, this is a foundational case prep step that pays dividends downrange.
Flash hole uniforming is one of those details that separates ammunition that shoots to potential from ammunition that doesn't. If you're already investing time in neck turning, primer pocket uniforming, or load development, skipping flash hole prep is false economy. Lyman's approach keeps it straightforward and reliable, so you can finish prep quickly and move on to the bench with confidence.
| Caliber Range | .22 – .45 |
| Handle Material | Cushioned polyurethane |
| Stop Collar | Adjustable |
| Operation | Manual hand tool |
The adjustable stop collar allows the tool to work with any centerfire rifle or handgun case from .22 caliber through .45 caliber, including .22 Hornet, .308 Winchester, .30-06, .223 Remington, .45-70, and everything in between.
Insert the tool into the flash hole through the case mouth and turn it clockwise. The adjustable stop collar prevents over-insertion and ensures consistent depth. A quick turn removes burrs and restores uniform spark passage.
Burrs inside the flash hole obstruct the primer spark's path to the powder charge, causing inconsistent ignition from round to round. Removing these burrs ensures that every primer spark reaches the powder reliably, improving velocity consistency and accuracy—especially critical for precision rifle loads or match ammunition.
No. The ergonomic cushioned handle and simple clockwise turning motion make it straightforward. The adjustable stop collar handles the caliber adjustment automatically, so there's no setup between different case sizes.
