Luth-Ar
The Luth-Ar UR-01-E3-SA A1 upper receiver is a period-correct 5.56 NATO/.223 build component for AR-15 rifles with authentic carry handle sights and classic slick-side architecture. Built from 7075-T6 aluminum forgings and finished in hard coat anodize black, this assembled upper receiver recreates the original M16A1 profile—no M4 ramps, no forward assist, no shell deflector. It's the right choice for shooters building a historically accurate rifle, maintaining a retro platform, or simply preferring the cleaner lines of early-era AR design.
The receiver ships fully assembled with the A1 rear sight housing and ejection port cover door already installed, so you're ready to mount a barrel assembly and bolt carrier group. All attachment points meet current mil-spec dimensions, meaning modern AR-15 components will fit without modification. The slick side eliminates feed ramp features found on flat-top uppers, which is a defining characteristic of this pattern—not a drawback, but part of the authentic design philosophy.
Weighing 7 ounces and measuring 7¾" in length, this receiver is compact and light. Its 4" height and 1.5" width accommodate standard handguard and furniture. Whether you're a collector building a Vietnam-era tribute rifle, a competitor running retro-platform matches, or simply someone who appreciates the stripped-down simplicity of classic AR ergonomics, this upper delivers genuine quality in a time-tested configuration. Note that the charging handle and internal carrier components are sold separately.

Yes. All attachment points meet current mil-spec dimensions, so standard modern AR-15 components will fit without modification. The slick side refers to the external profile and the absence of feed ramps and assist features—not to incompatibility with contemporary parts.
M4 feed ramps are machined into the upper receiver on most modern flat-top AR uppers to improve reliability with certain ammunition. This receiver uses the original A1 pattern, which lacks those ramps—it's period-correct for early M16A1 rifles. This design choice is intentional for historical accuracy and is not a performance limitation for standard rifle applications.
The receiver ships assembled with the A1 rear sight housing and ejection port cover door installed. You will need to source and install a barrel assembly, bolt carrier group, charging handle, and trigger group to complete a functional rifle.
Yes. The A1 profile with carry handle sights and slick side configuration makes this the correct choice for building a historically accurate M16A1-pattern rifle or retro AR-15 tribute gun.
