The Leupold SX-5 Santiam HD 27-55x80mm straight-body spotting scope is built for hunters, long-range shooters, and backcountry glassers who demand optical performance that doesn't quit. Unlike generic spotters that wash out in harsh light or strain your eyes after hours behind the glass, this straight-bodied design delivers the brightness and clarity that serious fieldwork demands. The straight eyepiece naturally aligns with your line of sight, making target acquisition and tracking intuitive whether you're glassing from a ridge or working prone behind your rifle.

Built on Leupold's Professional-Grade Optical System, the SX-5 Santiam HD combines a 27-55x magnification range with an 80mm objective for a versatile balance between light-gathering power and portability. The optical system features Diamond Coat 2 fully multi-coated lens elements and high-definition phase coatings that cut glare in direct, punishing sunlight—a real advantage when you're scanning open country or observing from a sun-exposed vantage. The Armor Coat protects the external glass, keeping your view clear even in rough field conditions. The straight body measures 15.75 inches and weighs 68.7 ounces, making it pack-friendly without sacrificing the 80mm glass you need for quality at distance.

For tripod users, the integrated Arca-Swiss adapter mounts directly to modern heads, eliminating adapter clutter and giving you quick, secure positioning. Like all Leupold optics, the SX-5 Santiam HD is fogproof, waterproof, and backed by Leupold's lifetime guarantee. Designed and assembled in the USA, it's a scope built to work as hard as you do—all day in the field, in any season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this spotting scope compatible with my Arca-Swiss tripod head?

Yes. The SX-5 Santiam HD integrates an Arca-Swiss tripod adapter directly into the scope body, allowing quick and secure mounting to any Arca-Swiss compatible head without additional adapters.

What's the difference between the straight and angled version?

This is the straight-body model, which means the eyepiece aligns straight back along your line of sight. The straight design offers intuitive target acquisition and is ideal for prone shooting positions. An angled version is also available if you prefer a different viewing angle.

Does the SX-5 Santiam HD include a tripod?

No. The scope does not include a tripod with purchase, but it integrates an Arca-Swiss adapter for easy mounting to compatible tripod heads.

Can I use this scope for both hunting and target shooting at the range?

Yes. The 27-55x magnification range and 80mm objective make this scope versatile for both field hunting applications and long-range shooting observation. The high-definition phase coatings and glare-reduction properties support all-day use in challenging lighting conditions.
