The Lee Round Ball Mould with handles is a double-cavity casting tool designed for shooters who cast their own round balls for muzzleloaders, percussion caps, and traditional blackpowder firearms. This .457" mould throws 143.28-grain projectiles and ships complete with casting handles, so you can start casting as soon as it arrives. Lee Precision built this mould from aluminum—a material choice that matters when you're standing over a pot of molten lead. Aluminum heats and cools faster than steel or iron alternatives, speeding up your casting cycle and reducing the physical fatigue of repeated handle manipulation.
The core of this mould's reliability is CNC-machined block halves that eliminate the weak points where fatigue cracks typically start in cheaper castings. That precision translates to consistently smooth, uniform round balls—critical if you're chasing accuracy at distance or just want ammunition you can trust. Whether you're feeding a .45-caliber rifle, a smoothbore musket, or a traditional revolver, uniformity in ball weight and diameter matters more than most reloaders realize.
This is working gear, not a decorative piece. The aluminum construction keeps weight down—important when you're holding handles over heat for hours—and the included handles are built to last through thousands of casts. For the serious blackpowder shooter or someone getting into casting for the first time, the Lee Round Ball Mould delivers the accuracy and reliability you need without unnecessary expense.
| Brand | Lee Precision |
| Mould Type | Double Cavity Round Ball |
| Ball Diameter | .457" |
| Weight Per Ball | 143.28 gr |
| Material | Aluminum |
| Handles Included | Yes |
.457" balls are suitable for .45-caliber muzzleloaders, traditional blackpowder rifles, and period percussion arms. Always verify your specific firearm's bore diameter and chamber design before casting ammunition.
Yes—handles are included. You won't need to purchase them separately.
Aluminum heats and cools more quickly than steel or iron, which speeds up your casting rhythm and reduces hand fatigue during long sessions. The faster thermal response also helps produce more consistent results. This mould's aluminum construction combined with CNC-machined block halves minimizes the weak points where casting moulds typically fail.
This is a double-cavity mould, meaning you cast two balls per cycle.
