The Lee Precision 90855 Factory Crimp Die for 444 Marlin is a rifle reloading die designed to deliver the consistent, controlled crimps that serious handloaders rely on for accuracy. Unlike standard seating dies that merely hold the bullet in place, a factory crimp die applies firm pressure to the case mouth, squeezing it into the bullet's crimp groove for a secure mechanical grip. This approach works even on bullets without a traditional crimp groove—a real advantage if you're using military brass or experimenting with unconventional projectiles.
Why does a firm crimp matter? Because it directly affects your pressure curve. When the bullet is locked down more securely, pressure builds to a higher starting level before the projectile shifts during firing, which translates to a more uniform pressure signature and tighter velocity spreads. Tighter velocity means tighter groups at distance, and tighter groups mean more reliable hits on game or steel. For hunters pushing 444 Marlin loads out to meaningful distances, that consistency compounds downrange.
The die features a collet design that applies radial pressure around the case mouth, ensuring even crimp pressure all the way around. It threads into any standard 7/8"-14 reloading press you already own—no special equipment needed. This is the same proven crimping approach Lee has used across their factory crimp line for years, trusted by reloaders who understand that accuracy starts at the bench, not at the gun counter.
| Product | Lee Precision 90855 Factory Crimp Die |
| Caliber | 444 Marlin |
| Type | Factory Crimp Die |
| Press Compatibility | 7/8"-14 threaded presses |
| Included | Die only; shellholder sold separately |
Yes, as long as your press has a standard 7/8"-14 die hole. Lee Factory Crimp Dies thread into the same port as standard seating or sizing dies, so setup is straightforward on any conventional single-stage or progressive press.
Yes. A shellholder is required to hold your 444 Marlin brass during the crimping stroke, but it is not included with this die. You'll need to purchase it separately if you don't already own one.
A factory crimp die applies crimp pressure as its sole function, using a collet to squeeze the case mouth around the bullet with uniform radial pressure. A standard seating die's crimp is a secondary feature and generally produces a lighter hold. The factory crimp die provides a firmer, more consistent crimp, which improves pressure uniformity and velocity consistency in your loads.
Yes. That's one of the practical strengths of the Lee Factory Crimp Die. It works on any bullet by applying radial pressure at the case mouth, even if the projectile lacks a traditional crimp groove.
