Lee Precisiom
The Lee Precision 90782 Taper Crimp Die for .40 S&W / 10mm is a specialized reloading die built to solve crimp inconsistencies that plague handgun ammunition. If you've dealt with rounds that don't chamber smoothly or primer pockets that feel loose, this taper crimp die addresses those problems head-on. It's engineered from hardened steel, designed to deliver reliable performance through thousands of rounds without degradation—the kind of durability serious reloaders depend on when they're running high-volume loads for competition, practice, or defensive carry ammunition.
This die is purpose-built for shooters who want ammunition that feeds and performs with the kind of consistency that's non-negotiable in a carry gun or match pistol. Taper crimping, as opposed to roll crimping, creates a gradual cone shape that grips the case neck without deforming the round excessively—critical for semi-automatic cartridges like .40 S&W and 10mm that need precise case dimensions to cycle reliably. Lee's affordable approach to this specialized tool means you don't have to choose between quality and budget.
Note: If you're already using Lee dies manufactured after 1986, those dies already incorporate a taper crimp design, so this dedicated die provides less tangible benefit in that setup. For older Lee equipment or to add a dedicated crimp station to your reloading bench, this is a no-nonsense choice that's stood the test of time.
| Caliber | .40 S&W / 10mm |
| Die Type | Taper Crimp Die |
| Material | Hardened Steel |
| Manufacturer | Lee Precision |
| Model Number | 90782 |
Yes—this die is designed to fit standard reloading press configurations. However, if your Lee dies were manufactured after 1986, they already incorporate a taper crimp design, so a dedicated crimp die offers minimal additional benefit in that case.
Taper crimping creates a gradual cone-shaped grip on the case neck, which is ideal for semi-automatic cartridges because it minimizes case deformation and supports reliable feeding and chambering. This die provides that taper crimp geometry specifically for .40 S&W and 10mm ammunition.
A dedicated taper crimp die addresses inconsistent crimp quality that can result in feeding or chambering issues, loose primer pockets, or variable bullet seating. It ensures uniform crimp geometry across all your rounds.
