L.E. Wilson
The L.E. Wilson Case Gage for .243 Winchester is a no-frills, essential tool for reloaders who want to dial in their full-length resizing dies correctly and avoid one of the most common mistakes in handloading: oversizing brass. This single-piece gage lets you measure both fired case overall length and datum-to-head length quickly and accurately—the two critical dimensions that determine whether your resizing setup is spot-on or working your brass too hard.
If you're setting up a 7/8"-14 press-type full-length resizing die, this gage is how you know you're not pushing brass past its limits. Oversized cases won't chamber safely, fire erratically, or develop dangerous pressures. By checking headspace with a caliper against this gage, you can dial your die in to the sweet spot—tight enough to ensure proper fit and safety, loose enough to preserve case life over multiple reloads. It's the difference between brass that lasts five firings and brass that lasts ten.
The .243 Winchester is a popular cartridge for everything from varmint work to deer hunting, so if you're loading for it, accuracy and consistency matter. This gage is compact, durable, and straightforward: no electronics, no complexity, just a tool that does one job extremely well. Includes instructions and comes in a cardboard box.
| Overall Length (OAL) | 2.494" |
| Large End ID | .473" |
| Small End ID | .347" |
| Outside Diameter (OD) | .991" |
| Finish | Silver with center knurling |
| Included | Gage and instructions |
The L.E. Wilson Case Gage is designed for use with 7/8"-14 press-type full-length resizing dies, the standard thread size for most common reloading presses.
Insert a fired case into the gage and measure the datum-to-head length with a caliper. Compare that measurement to a known good baseline to determine if your die is resizing to the correct headspace. Instructions are included with the gage.
The gage lets you quickly identify cases that are growing in length and need trimming, and more importantly, it ensures your resizing die isn't oversizing the case—a common error that can cause feeding problems, pressure issues, and shortened case life.
Yes. This gage works with any standard 7/8"-14 full-length resizing die setup for .243 Winchester. It's a universal checking tool, not press-specific.
